After a strong start to the season, the Huskers (2-2-1) have struggled over the past two weeks with an overtime loss to Arkansas, a regulation loss to BYU and a draw with Utah State after being two goals up at halftime.
The Husker season continues this weekend with a short trip to Lawrence, Kansas where they will play San Francisco (4-1) and San Diego (4-2) in the Kansas Tournament. The Huskers will face off against San Francisco on Friday at 1:30 p.m. while the match against San Diego kicks off Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
On a more positive note, senior defender Ari Romero got another call up to the Mexican women's national team where she played a full 90 minutes on September 3rd against the United States. The final score was 7-0 in favor of the United States although Romero had plenty of blocked shots throughout the match for Mexico to keep the scoreline from getting uglier. After Romero graduates, there's a high possibility we could see her become a regular starter on the Mexican women's national team.
After this weekend's matches, conference play begins a week from today when the Huskers take on Michigan State which will be shown LIVE on Big Ten Network. I hope to do some player interviews along with quality match reports and post-game analysis throughout the rest of Husker soccer season.
GO BIG RED!
