Nebraska football practices are closed to the public and the media, and guests who do get the opportunity to observe are cautioned to not share what they see and hear on the internet and in the media. Those rules apparently didn't apply to the BTN crew who sat through this morning's practice, as Dave Revsine and Tom Dienhart gave us their observations on Twitter.
So for those of you that missed it...
At #Nebraska practice. Tough not to be impressed w OLine - as physically imposing a group as we've seen on our tour
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
I ask Tim Beck who would start on o line today, he said Long and Cotton at G; Rodriguez, Sirles at T with Qvale working in; Pelini at C.
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
The coaches have talked about the depth quite a bit. You may be surprised if Mark Pelini starts at center, but don't think that means Cole Pensick won't play. There will be a rotation, and that's a VERY good thing.
Haven't done team drills yet (when O goes against D), but component pieces of #Huskers offense all look very strong.
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
Shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.
Kellogg rotating in 2nd w QB's. Armstrong injury recovery could be a factor there. Love Armstrong's skill set. #Huskers.
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
Tim Beck says Tommy Armstrong and Ron Kellogg still battling for No. 2 QB spot. #Huskers
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
Ameer Abdullah, Terrell Newby, Jordan Westerkamp and Jamal Turner working as punt returners. #Huskers
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
Pretty clear from the way the #Huskers are rotating guys that Terrell Newby has a good shot at seeing the field. Can see why - smooth
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
This d line unit was working together: Ankrah and Gregory at DE; Valentine and Curry inside. Gregory looks good. #Huskers
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
Same disclaimer as before - but #Huskers 1st DL in team walk through - Ankrah, Gregory, Curry, Valentine
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
Papuchis likes Thad Randle up front at DT. A true frosh he says to watch is DT Maliek Collins. Big kid. #Huskers
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
I think some of this talk might have been the best kept secret of fall camp up to now.
Agreed - hence disclaimer @12dcvf Randle has one of the DT spots won already. So they are looking to see who the other DT is going to be.
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
DL certainly big enough physically - athletic as well. Youth is obvious concern. Gregory really looks the part. #Huskers

— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
The question about Randle isn't his talent and ability, it's whether his knee will hold up. The coaches seem confident it will.
John Papuchis likes his LBs. Says true frosh LBs Nathan Gerry and Josh Banderas have impressed and likely will play. #Huskers
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
Doing walk through stuff now, so you can't read too much into it, but Nathan Gerry out there w 1st group of LB's
— Dave Revsine (@BTNDaveRevsine) August 19, 2013
Is Gerry going to be used like Dejon Gomes in 2010, where he frequently lined up as a linebacker in a dime role? Too early to tell (and Bo won't anyway), but it's clear that Gerry is going to play, and could play quite a bit this season. And if he does well, he could be used in a "Peso" role next season after Ciante Evans graduates.
Mauro Bondi is dueling with Western Ill. transfer Pat Smith, who told me staff has given no indication when decision will be made. #Huskers
— Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 19, 2013
Another battle that probably will go down to the wire. I wonder if they'll split the job, like Alex Henery and Adi Kunalic did.

Some people will point out that the BTN crew isn't going to say anything bad about Nebraska. They have a point, but it's not applicable here. BTN's commentators aren't saying whether Nebraska has the talent to beat Michigan or Ohio State...or even Illinois. What they are telling us is who is emerging in camp, and who might play.
Want to go ahead and start making mental adjustments to the depth chart in your head? Go ahead. I won't stop you.
