Miles Nabs Big Need with First Commit of 2014 Class

Oklahoma City Center Jacob Hammond commits to Nebraska, becoming the first rivals 150 player to commit to the Huskers since they began publishing the list.

USA TODAY Sports

The Nebraska picked up its first commitment of the 2014 recruiting class Monday evening when 6'10" center Jacob Hammond committed to Coach Miles on his official visit.

The one time Oklahoma commit is a four star rated prospect by ESPN and the 139th rated player by rivals.com.  Hammond is the first Rivals 150 player to ever commit to the Huskers.

Hammond, a native or Oklahoma City, is an athletic center with soft touch around the rim, and before you go thinking he's the next Jorge Brian Diaz, has also shown a willingness to fight for rebounds and dunk when he has the chance.

Hammond fills an area of significant need in this next class as the Huskers will be thin on the post after the 2014 season.  Miles has gone on record saying that both 2014 scholarships will likely be filled by big men.

The early signing period for basketball is November 13, which is the earliest Hammond or any other recruits can sign their letter of intent.  Hammond chose Nebraska over Oklahoma, Texas Tech and TCU.
