STOP YOU'RE COMPLAINING. YOU HAD A LOT OF DAYS OFF THIS WEEKEND. Come on now, you had three days off in four days (some of you four straight days) and you don't wanna go back to work? The busier you are at work, the more money you make, the more you can hang out and grill during football season. See, it all works out!!
Monday's goods, everyone. ($ = subscription needed)
From Friday, here's Mike's story on how Nebraska is attempting to revolutionize the concussion test on sidelines of football fields worldwide. It seems like the NCAA has been the slowest of the three main levels of football (NFL, High School) when it comes to addressing these head injuries. Lets hope people like the NFL notice this and consider looking at what data comes off of this.
Husker RB Ameer Abdullah was named to the Hornung Award watch list on Friday. I really don't care about watch lists, I mean, it's good press and that's it. However, If he stays healthy, there's a good chance he could very well become a finalist come December.
Your Monday recruiting report puts the Huskers 37th on the Rivals board and 39th on the 247 board. The conference rankings are sixth at Rivals and seventh at 247.
Former Husker baseballer Alex Gordon was selected to be in the Major League Baseball All Star Game in New York next Tuesday. This is the first time that Gordon has been selected to the Mid-Summer Classic.
The guys over at the Syracuse SBN community did their list of the Seven Wonders of the College Athletic World. There is one place in Nebraska.... but it isn't in Lincoln.
I didn't realize till this weekend that the US Senior Open is at the Omaha Country Club this week. Here are the tee times for Friday and Saturday if you're going, even though it does seem like a lot of withdrawals are happening.
Who is getting the most out of what they spend and put in resources for recruiting? Matt Brown at LGHL took a look at this. The space between the higher end BCS schools and the smaller schools are insane.
Also from LGHL, some people may appreciate knowing how the Big Ten did versus things like the spread and such last year, including Nebraska.
It seems that people love to bash Urban Meyer over how Aaron Hernandez was treated at Florida when both were at the school. I see the point into it, but realize one thing; that someone would have taken Hernandez if UF kicked him out.
To pass time on your Monday, who doesn't wanna watch Mike Leach teach offensive skills from when he was at Kentucky?
Sounds like Notre Dame QB Everett Golson will return to South Bend this coming Spring to attempt to get back on the field for the Irish.
Wimbledon ended this weekend, as England's native son Andy Murray won the men's side, while Marion Bartoli won a chaotic women's draw.
As we stated above, the 2013 All-Star rosters came out. The biggest snub was the fact that Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig got put in that stupid "Final Vote" thing. You have other justifiable snubs, but Puig's is criminal. Then again, it may be that ploy to get folks to vote, who knows.
Four years of planning gave Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morley the opportunity to land coveted big man Dwight Howard this weekend. You can get the rest of the NBA Free Agency jive here.
If you can find a better play in MLB this year other than this one, feel free to let me know in the comments below. (YOU CAN'T)
Today brings you National Video Game Day, as well as National Milk Chocolate with Almonds Day.
On this day in history, The Liberty Bell rang in 1776, and Paris celebrated it's 2000th birthday in 1951.
The number 1 song on this day in 1972? Lean On Me, by Bill Withers.
(thanks Aisha JR)
Enjoy today folks, for we never know if tomorrow is guaranteed.
