Nebraska lost last night’s game 8-6 in what turned out to be a hell of a baseball game. The Huskers took an early 2-0 lead, only to see Indiana hit two solo homers in the third inning to tie the game.
Indiana would take a 5-2 lead into the sixth, when the Huskers cut the lead by one as Chad Christensen led with a double, moved to third on a groundout from our man Kash Kalkowski, then scored on a wild pitch.
Indiana would score another two runs and lead the game 7-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth when Nebraska would rally, starting the inning with four straight hits, including a double from Michael Pritchard, and scoring three runs. Nebraska had the tying run at second with only one out when Blake Headley singled. Kash Kalkowski tried to score from second, but was gunned down at the plate.
The Hoosiers would bring in closer Ryan Halstead to replace Scott Effross who had given up four hits and three runs in an inning. Halstead would strike out Bryan Peters to close the inning, then strike out the Huskers in 1-2-3 HOLY SHIT fashion in the ninth to end the game.
Indiana hit four homers, two each from Nick Ramos and Kyle Schwarber. Think about that for a second.... Nebraska played a damned good game against one of the best teams in the nation, but make just a few mistakes and that was the game.
Today is the second game of the series.
