Ladies and Gentleman, we have the first opponent for the Huskers in their new home. The Lincoln Journal-Star is reporting last year's Sweet 16 darlings Florida Gulf Coast will visit Lincoln to help the Huskers open their new digs. FGCU, if you remember captured the country's attention as the high flying team who stunned #2 Georgetown and #7 San Diego St. en route to Dallas as the first ever #15 seed to reach the tournament's second weekend. The athletic department has yet to confirm the story and we're still waiting on the date and time of the game.
The Eagles will be replacing their leading scorer, Sherwood Brown and will be featuring a new coach, Joe Dooley, so how much they resemble the team that went on that magic March carpet ride remains to be seen, but it is a name that is sure to raise some eyebrows and should be a nice barometer for a Husker team playing heir first game together as a unit.
FGCU make for at least five opponents that reached last year's Sweet 16 that will play in the new arena joining Miami, Ohio St., Indiana and Michigan. That should be a home schedule that will be worth every penny.
