The Huskers missed out on Matthew Atewe on Saturday, but today they rebounded by securing the commitment of Seward County Community College power forward Leslee Smith. Smith originally committed to SMU out of high school but transferred after the Mustangs hired Larry Brown. At SMU, Smith played 15 minutes per game, averaging 3.8 points and 3.4 rebounds.

Smith's 6' 8" 250 pound frame will bolster the Husker front line which severely lacks size. He will be asked to come in and defend Big Ten post players and rebound and any offensive contribution he'll be able to provide the better. He chose the Huskers over St. Louis, an NCAA tournament team and ranked in the top 25 for much of the second half of the season. Out of high school, he carried offers from several mid major schools as well as USC and Colorado St.

With Smith's commitment, the Huskers have one scholarship remaining to give for next season and are expected to host Sai Tummala this week.
