RHP Jeff Chesnut vs. LHP Bryan Conant
Okay, we're trying this again.
The Nebraska baseball team (6-12, 0-0 Big Ten) dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday night at Goodwin Field, as No. 8 Cal State Fullerton plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning with a bases-loaded walk to pull out an 8-7 win.
I realize we're not winning games, but last night's game was probably the best game Nebraska has played this season and it was against one of the best teams in the nation. To lose it in the 11th inning in the fashion they did (and let's be blunt, that umpire was NOT going to call a third strike in that position in front of THAT crowd) is heartbreaking.
This weekend Big Ten Conference play starts. I want to believe that the Huskers are ready for it. We've played damned tough competition. We haven't won a lot of games, and the offense is a concern.
Bottom line - support this team, dammit. Darin Erstad is hard to not like. Nebraska baseball is a sport in which we want to be successful.
Join us tonight, pick up the game on video at bigwest.tv and let's watch a Husker team getting their shit together right before the start of what really matters - conference play.
GO BIG RED!
And on a personal note... the video above is my oldest son's band. He's the singer, rhythm guitar player. I'd appreciate it if you'd take 3:33 to watch it and let me know what you think.
