Nebraska Soccer draws #2 seed in NCAA Tournament Bracket

Nebraska Soccer is one of eight Big Ten women's soccer teams playing in the 2013 NCAA Women's Tournament.  This will be their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.

Nebraska's first round match in the NCAA Tournament will be against Southland conference tournament champions Southeastern Louisiana.  The Lions were a #3 seed in the Southland conference tournament and went on to defeat both #2 seed Oral Roberts and #1 seed Stephen F. Austin on penalties to qualify for the NCAA tournament.  The NCAA Tournament First Round matches will be played November 15-17.  Since the Huskers home football game against Michigan State is this Saturday, I assume this first round match will be played on Friday or Sunday

Florida State is the #1 seed in Nebraska's bracket who are ACC Tournament champions as a #2 seed thanks to a 1-0 win over #4 seed Virginia Tech.  One important thing to note in this tournament is all #1 seeds are ACC teams (North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Florida State) which is pretty rare but it shows how strong women's soccer is in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season.

West Coast Conference Champions Portland are the #3 seed in Nebraska's bracket and well known for winning two NCAA Women's Soccer titles in 2002 and 2005.  Summit League regular season and tournament champions Denver are the #4 seed in this bracket and a team Nebraska already beat this year 2-1 here in Lincoln on September 22nd.

You can check out the full NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament Bracket below.  If that is a little hard to read you click here for an interactive bracket.

I will be publishing a Nebraska Soccer weekend recap/tournament preview later this week so keep an eye out for that on Corn Nation!

GO BIG RED!!!
