Nebraska Football Recruiting: Is Drake Martinez a Potential Husker?

Here's the skinny on No. 3 Part Deux

Eric Francis

With Taylor Martinez's younger brother available this cycle, several Husker fans have been jumping up and down, pointing excitedly.

Will Drake Martinez end up as a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers?

Maybe.

The younger Martinez (hereafter referred to as "Martinez 2.0") officially visited Lincoln in late October and is currently visiting fellow Big Ten member Michigan State.

Hmm...what else? Well, he has an offer from San Diego State and the Tennessee Volunteers have shown interest in him, but haven't offered.

If Martinez 2.0 were to come to Lincoln, he'd likely be placed at safety due to his 6'2" 205-pound frame and speed similar to his older brother.

Assuming all current scholarship safeties remain at their position and sign Letters of Intent, the Cornhuskers have six already in the holster. There's been some talk of current cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste getting an extra year and sliding back, too.

Long story short, don't expect Martinez to become a Husker. At this point, you're more likely to see him try to take down a receiver in scarlet and cream during live action than in practice.
