Little did we know just how big a day this was for Nebraska basketball. The Dallas, TX point guard pulled the trigger after visiting with the more well known Nick Fuller and Akoy Agau this week. Big day for Coach Miles!
Hawkins is a 6' 5" point guard out of Rowlett, TX, just outside of Dallas. He averaged almost 12.8 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. If there's an area of his game he needs to improve it's his propensity to turn the ball over. He chose Nebraska over mainly Kansas St. and Oklahoma St. He had a variety of other mid-major offers.
There's not as much information available on Hawkins as there was for Fuller. There is some video out there from his sophomore year. He seems to have a smooth shot and some scoring punch, but that was two summers and a high school season ago, so his game surely has grown since then, but that seems like a pretty solid foundation to build from. This seems to be a pretty solid pick-up. If he sticks at point guard, he's bigger than Nebraska's had at the position in a very long time. It would not be shocking to see him move off the point spot to the shooting guard position.
