Big Ten Countdown: 67 Nebraska Track and Field

Nebraska track and field has had a long history of success. Dating back to the days of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Men's team has won 35 Indoor and 27 Outdoor conference titles. They've never finished less than second in any Big XII Indoor championship meet.

Nebraska Track & Field star Priscilla Lopes-Schliep competes nationally.

The Nebraska Women's T&F squad has been going since 1975. It took them a few years to get rolling, but once they did, no one in the Big Eight could beat them. They won 17 of 21 Big Eight conference Indoor championships (1st place every year between 1980 and 1996) and 16 of 23 Big 8 conference Outdoor Championships. Two of these years, they didn't field a varsity team(1974, 1975) and they won every league outdoor title from 1980-1995. They even won three national titles (1982, 1983, 1984). They have also been very competative during the Big XII era.  They have finished either 1st or 2nd in 11 of 14 Big XII Indoor Championships and 10 of 14 Big XII Outdoor championships.

The Big XII Outdoor championship this year is scheduled May 13-15 in Norman. There are currently 7 Big XII men's and 7 Big XII women's Track and Field teams in the top 25. The Women's team is currently unranked and the Men's team is ranked #10.

Nebraska also has 18 women and 23 men that have been Olympians.

What does Nebraska have to look forward to in the Big Ten?  Well, every school has a Track team except for Northwestern and only Minnesota is currently ranked in Track and Field.  Nebraska should be able to immediately compete for Big Ten conference titles in the T & F department.
