It happens every spring - some guy you wanted to step up next year and have a good year does something stupid, damaging their chances.

This spring it's wide receiver Niles Paul, who has been arrested for suspicion of DUI, driving under a suspended license, and since he's only 19, minor in possession. In a typical "pulled over for DUI" story, he was stopped for speeding. Not incredibly fast, just 53 in a 45, but at 2:08 am, it's like you're asking for it.

Paul handled the majority of kickoff returns for the Huskers in 2008 for a 23.6 averge and had one return for a touchdown for 85 yards against San Jose State. He is the only experienced punt returner. As a wide receiver in 2008, he had 23 receptions for 214 yards, but didn't score a touchdown.

For his act of utter stupidity, Paul gets suspended for the rest of spring practice, which means we won't be seeing him in the spring game this coming weekend. Depending upon the next few months, it's a good bet we won't be seeing him in at least one game in the fall.

Upon learning the news, an entire state as well as several thousand of expatriate fans were heard to say "AARRRUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" together, as they all held high hopes for Paul in 2009.
