Nebraska's designated hitter Senior Jeff Tezak is done for the season with a knee injury. Apparently he'd suffered the injury before the season started and was attempting to play through it.
Tezak, a switch-hitting senior from Poway, Calif., who earned second-team All-Big 12 honors a year ago, attempted to play through the injury for the first two weeks of the season. He started all seven games for the Huskers at designated hitter, hitting .190 with two RBIs and a home run on Friday in Nebraska's win over UC-Riverside.
Tezak was our top returning batter with a .335 average a year ago. He will apply for a medical hardship for 2008 so that he can return for 2009.
This is a blow to a team looking for power hitting. The Huskers will try a number of guys at DH - Tyler Farst, Craig Corriston (who has now returned from a NCAA violation-based suspension), Nick Sullivan, Tyler Rank or David Stewart. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cody Neer at DH dependent upon what's happening with first base and catcher. The bottom line is that we need more power.
Nebraska defeated University of Nebraska-Kearney 11-2 Tuesday. UNK is the Huskers only non-Division I opponent.
