Final Big 12 Baseball Week Review - Week Ending May 21st

Final Big 12 Baseball Week Review (Week ending Monday, May 21st)

Overall Big 12 win-loss records are updated on the left sidebar. Win-loss for the week is included below.

Texas wins the Big 12 regular season title - their second straight, and fourth Big 12 title.

They're following by a surprising Missouri team, then Oklahoma State, and then Nebraska.

Big 12 Rankings this Week
USA Today/ ESPN Coaches' Poll: Texas, 5th; Texas A&M, 11th; Missouri, 15th; Oklahoma State, 18th
Baseball America Top 25: Texas, 6th; Missouri, 11th'; Texas A&M, 17th; Oklahoma State, 21st;
Collegiate Baseball Top 25: Texas, 7th; Missouri, 14th, Oklahoma State 21st; Texas A&M, 23rd

Baylor 3-1 Tue., May 15 Rice 13, Baylor 0
Fri., May 18 Baylor 9, Kansas State 8
Sat., May 19 Baylor 13, Kansas State 7
Sun., May 20 Baylor 9, Kansas State 3

They were smoked by Rice mid-week, but then Baylor played their way into the Big 12 tournament by sweeping Kansas State. They'll take on third seed Oklahoma State

Kansas 1-2 Fri., May 18 Kansas 10, Nebraska 5
Sat., May 19 Nebraska 11, Kansas 9
Sun., May 20 Nebraska 4, Kansas 2

Kansas' season ended this weekend as they lose their series to the Cornhuskers, and finish out of the top eight in the Big 12. A dismal season for a team that won the Big 12 tourney last year.

Kansas State 1-3 Tue., May 15 Kansas State 10, Illinois State 3
Fri., May 18 Baylor 9, Kansas State 8
Sat., May 19 Baylor 13, Kansas State 7
Sun., May 20 Baylor 9, Kansas State 3

Getting swept by Baylor is no way to end the regular season, but Kansas State manages to get into the Big 12 tourney. They'll play Texas as they are the eighth seed.

Missouri 4-0 Tue., May 15 Missouri 12, Illinois 5
Fri., May 18 Missouri 9, Oklahoma State 6
Sat., May 19 Missouri 8, Oklahoma State 5
Sun., May 20 Missouri 7, Oklahoma State 4

There was supposed to be some drama involved here - Mizzou and Okie State fighting for second place in the Big 12 as they were tied last week. Not much drama in the Cowboys getting swept is there? Missouri has a solid second-place finish in the Big 12 - they have been hot lately - and have only lost one series all season. Missouri will play seventh seeded Oklahoma in the first round.

Nebraska 2-2 Tue., May 15 Creighton 9, Nebraska 2
Fri., May 18 Kansas 10, Nebraska 5
Sat., May 19 Nebraska 11, Kansas 9
Sun., May 20 Nebraska 4, Kansas 2

I'm not 100% sure to know how to feel about the last week of Husker baseball. They out-hit Creighton, but lose the game badly and lose the series. They go into Lawrence and play horrible on Friday night then come back and win the series - just like they did against Baylor the week before. After starting poorly, the Huskers finished above .500 in conference and moved up to fourth in the Big 12 - winning their fifth series out of the past sixth. Now we'll see how much damage they can do in the Big 12 tourney as they start off against Texas A&M.

Oklahoma 3-1 Mon., May 14 Oklahoma 10, SFA 6
Fri., May 18 Oklahoma 6, Texas Tech 5
Sat., May 19 Oklahoma 8, Texas Tech 7
Sun., May 20 Texas Tech 15, Oklahoma 5

Oklahoma finally wins a series against lowly Texas Tech. Oklahoma started the season ranked and fell off badly - finishing seventh in conference. As the seventh seed, they'll take on hot Missouri in the first round.

Oklahoma State 1-3 Tue., May 15 Oklahoma State 3, Wichita State 1
Fri., May 18 Missouri 9, Oklahoma State 6
Sat., May 19 Missouri 8, Oklahoma State 5
Sun., May 20 Missouri 7, Oklahoma State 4

Oklahoma State did a good job of beating a ranked Shocker team, but then turns around and gets swept against Missouri. They were tied with Missouri the previous week and this weekend was a battle for second place in the Big 12. Missouri took that second place with a bang. Oklahoma State will play Baylor in the first round of the tourney.

Texas 3-0 Fri., May 18 Texas 6, Texas A&M 4
Sat., May 19 Texas 3, Texas A&M 2
Sun., May 20 Texas 9, Texas A&M 1

Texas showed why they're the cream of the Big 12 in sweeping the Aggies. What a statement series - Texas lost only a single series all season, and that was against second-place Missouri. Texas is the #1 seed in the Big 12 and will be playing Kansas State in the first round.

Texas A&M 0-3 Tue., May 15 Texas A&M 11, McNeese State 6
Fri., May 18 Texas 6, Texas A&M 4
Sat., May 19 Texas 3, Texas A&M 2
Sun., May 20 Texas 9, Texas A&M 1

The Aggies get swept, and fall past Nebraska to fifth. Not a good sign - they'll be playing Nebraska in the first round of the Big 12 tourney.

Texas Tech 1-3 Tue., May 15 New Mexico St. 5, Texas Tech 4
Fri., May 18 Oklahoma 6, Texas Tech 5
Sat., May 19 Oklahoma 8, Texas Tech 7
Sun., May 20 Texas Tech 15, Oklahoma 5

Tech's season mercifully ends after losing a series to Oklahoma.
