Big 12 Baseball Week Review (Week ending Sunday, Feb. 25th)

Baylor 3-1 Tue., Feb. 20 Baylor 9, Texas-San Antonio 1
Fri., Feb. 23 Baylor 3, Oral Roberts 2
Sat., Feb. 24 Baylor 12, Oral Roberts 7
Sun., Feb. 25 Oral Roberts 4, Baylor 2

Baylor couldn't quite sweep Oral Roberts, losing their Sunday game 4-2, breaking a seven game winning streak, and a 14-game winning streak at their home park. Check this home field advantage: The last time Baylor defeated a team in the first two games of a series at home but lost the finale was March 4, 2001, when Missouri edged the Bears 5-4 in 10 innings. Baylor is now 19-3 in such games at Baylor Ballpark. Pretty impressive, eh?
Baylor will play UTA (UTA is making their trip around the Big 12) on Tuesday, then head out to the Pacific Tournament in Stockton California, to take on San Francisco, Pacific, and San Diego State.
Given that the stinky bastages over at Bear Meat declared war against Nebraska this past week, I hope that Baylor does well this season until they come to Lincoln. Then I hope we sweep them, meet them again the in the Big 12 tourney and beat them again in the title game. Take that, you fargan war-declaring bastages!

Kansas 0-3 Fri., Feb. 23 Stanford 6, Kansas 5
Sat., Feb. 24 Stanford 4, Kansas 1
Sun., Feb. 25 Stanford 7, Kansas 6

The Jayhawks swept by Stanford this weekend, ouch!!!

Kansas State had a nice week, going 4-0, including winning both games in a doubleheader against Ohio State Saturday in Tampa, Florida.
The coming week has the Wildcats heading to Beaumont, Texas to play in the Lamar Tournament against Lamar, St. John's, and UC-Santa Barbarba.

Missouri 3-1 Fri., Feb. 23 Missouri 4, BYU 1
Akron 8, Missouri 5
Sun., Feb. 25 Missouri 5, Navy 0
Sun., Feb. 25 Memphis 5, Missouri 1

Mizzou played in the Service Academy Classic this past weekend, dropping their last game against Memphis.
Next week Missouri has their home opener with a series against Youngstown State.

Nebraska 2-1 Fri., Feb. 23 Nebraska 9, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 1
Sat., Feb. 24 Rice 9, Nebraska 5
Sun., Feb. 25 Nebraska 8, Florida Atlantic 7
Nebraska went 2-1 on the weekend, losing to Rice on Saturday after starting out the game ahead 5-0. Both teams are (were?) ranked in the top ten in at least one poll heading into this game. Nebraska finished Sunday by handing Florida Atlantic their second loss of the season.
Next week, Nebraska will travel to Deland, Florida to play in the Stetson Invitational tournament against Iowa, Notre Dame and Stetson.
We hope you join us at Corn Nation throughout the season for Husker baseball coverage.
Oklahoma 3-0 Fri., Feb. 23 Oklahoma 1, Western Illinois 0
Sat., Feb. 24 Oklahoma 24, Western Illinois 4
Sun., Feb. 25 Oklahoma 7, Western Illinois 6

Oklahoma State 1-2 Fri., Feb. 23 Cal State Northridge 9, Oklahoma State 8
Sat., Feb. 24 Cal State Northridge 3, Oklahoma State 2

Oklahoma lost their series with Cal State Northridge, but won Sunday's game to eliminate the possible sweep.
Oklahoma State will play Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, then have a home series against Nicholls State next weekend.

Texas 3-1 Tue., Feb. 20 Texas 7, Texas State 1
Fri., Feb. 23 Texas 4, Washington State 2
Sat., Feb. 24 Texas 11, Washington State 2
Sun., Feb. 25 Washington State 7, Texas 6

Texas beat up on Texas State early in the week, and then won a series against Washington State this past weekend.
Texas will have a home series against Oral Roberts next weekend.

Texas A&M 4-0 Tue., Feb. 20 Texas A&M 9, UT-Arlington 5
Fri., Feb. 23 Texas A&M 15, Jacksonville State 5
Sat., Feb. 24 Texas A&M 6, Jacksonville State 4
Sun., Feb. 25 Texas A&M 12, Jacksonville State 0

Everybody in the Big 12 must get a chance to beat up on UT-Arlington and apparently it was the Aggies this last Tuesday. The Aggies then swept a series with Jacksonville State. Texas A&M has only lost one game this season - their lone loss coming against against Arizona State. Remember that Nebraska's former pitching coach, Rob Childress is the head coach now at A&M.
Next week, the Aggies will host their own tournament against Oregon State, St. Louis, and New Mexico. They will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday in College Station.

Mrs. Corn Nation just walked up stairs a little bit ago and told me that the dung heap that is "The Departed" won best picture. This is why I don't bother watching the Oscars. We watched this movie a couple weeks ago and I gave up with about ten minutes left because I couldn't take any more. It was an absolute piece of garbage and the idea that it won Best Picture shows that you don't need to do much more than get a bunch of big names together in a movie, hire a big name director, throw crap on the screen and it'll stick. It's two hours of your life you won't get back.
