Cob Of The Week: The BCS, Oklahoma Sooners And Bad Halves

This week's worst performance is all about the BCS, really, because I can't think of a more painful three-hour event than having to watch LSU play Alabama all over again.

This is why everyone mocks the computers

Andy Staples has a column on the SI.com homepage right now bringing to light serious suspicions around the legitimacy of the BCS. On Monday night, the BCS sent out a release revising its rankings....

College basketball bowl lineup

I'd be able to enjoy this from TNIAAM a lot more in any other season. THURSDAY, MARCH 19th Eagle Bank Bowl, Washington, D.C. Virginia Tech (19-15) vs. Cornell (21-10) FRIDAY, MARCH 20th N...

BCS declares Germany winner of World War II

This is awesome. After determining the Big-12 championship game participants, the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II. "Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking." Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories--Japan and Germany. The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event." German Chancellor Adolf Hitler said "Yes, we lost to the US; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces." The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2." Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

Stoops Lobbying on Dan Patrick Radio

Mack seems to be taking the high road right now (saying he won't comment about the mess until after the A&M game). Stoops is taking the completely opposite approach. Excerpt. "Stoops had some interesting things to say about the latest BCS rankings. He said Texas is ahead of Oklahoma because the Longhorns beat the Sooners, then shouldn't Texas Tech be ahead of Texas for the same reason? And shouldn't all three Big 12 teams be ahead of Florida, who lost at home to an unranked team?"

Texas vs. Oklahoma: a rivalry hot even on paper - LA Times

Interesting read at the LA Times on the intensity of the rivalry and how lobbying might determine who wins the South Division.
