Big East commissioner John Marinatto told Pete Thamel of the New York Times that the conference will hold Pitt and Syracuse to the 27-month period before either school can leave to join the ACC. That means, unless the schools can convince the conference to change its stance, the will not be able to begin participating in the ACC until June 2014.

According to ESPN's Andy Katz, the University of Connecticut's leadership is actively seeking membership in the Atlantic Coast Conference in response to the rapid departures of Syracuse and Pittsburgh.

The Pac-12 could expand to 14 teams with the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys, but it's an unresolved mystery as to how the conference can break them up into two separate divisions and satisfy all the major schools.

According to Kirk Bohls and Alan Trubow of the Austin American-Statesman, if the Big 12 does in fact implode, Texas would decide between pushing for membership in the Pac-12 or Atlantic Coast Conference.

According to an ESPN report, the Big East has reached out to the Big 12 schools that could be left behind if the conference were to lose two members (Oklahoma and Oklahoma State) or four (the Oklahoma schools, Texas and Texas Tech), the source said.
