Corn Nation Wins the College Football Blogger "The Job" Award

Corn Nation was announced today as the winner of the College Football Blogger "The Job" Award, described succinctly by EDSBS as "given to the website that, when served a shit souffle this year, cracked out the silverware without hesitation and did so with as much dignity and charm as possible."

The Official Rep of 2007 Husker football

The runner up was fellow SB Nation Louisville blogger Card Chronicle.

Basically we've won the CFBA turd award. Bloggers voted CN as the best "Mr Hanky" of the college football blogosphere. Dignified and charming, but at it's heart still a turd. Hip Hip Hooray for us.

It'd be one thing if we were used to losing or even content with mediocrity. Maybe if there was one inkling that a complete collapse was coming it would have been easier to take.

I am glad that I have Corn Nation as an outlet. Without this place someone might have gotten injured or I'd have descended into alcoholism as Husker Mike and I (along with every Husker fan) endured countless hours of historically crappy defense and a coach so enamored with his own offense that he wouldn't run the ball to shorten the agony.

Thanks for all the support from my fellow bloggers, I think. I look forward to never winning nor being eligble for this award again. I also look forward to presenting it to a Notre Dame blog next season.

Yeah...it's kind of like "Miss Congeniality"...

It's nice to know that we survived the 2007 debacle and kept our composure, but I'd rather never, ever, EVER hear the words "Kansas scored again".

(And judging by the results of most of the polls on the weekly report cards, a lot of alcoholics were created by Kevin Cosgrove's defense this season.)

Congratulations on the award

I doubt your blog will be in line for it next year.  I just don't see Nebraska suffering two seasons like this in a row.  2007 was a nightmare for NU, but I sense that the difference between how badly the year went, and another mid-level bowl year, really was much less than might be expected.  Just one win in October (@ MU, OSU, aTm & @UT) might have held the whole thing together for the rest of the season.

As an outsider, I found the whole mid-year collapse a head scratchier.  I didn't think it was possible for NU to give up so many points on defense week in and week out.  I started to wonder if the situation wasn't driven by program wide despair and hostility, not lack of talent.  Refusal to accept accountability caused those responsible to alternate between feeding on each other and circling the wagons, the whole time the team was breaking down into muttering and dispirited factions in a very public forum.

It just was ugly.

Oh well, not like I really know what I am talking about here.  I should probably just leave this to the Husker fans to sort out.

Rather

than sort it out, it's better that we just let it go or forget about it. It's much healthier that way.

Unless there's some humor involved. :)

Thanks, BTW.
