Husker Fans: Please Stay Off the Field

UNL Police are spreading the word to Husker fans to stay off the field after the USC game Saturday night.  Whether it's the dangers involved with tearing down goal posts or even the possibility of an ugly confrontation, UNL officials are looking to nip things in the bud.

Of course, this also raises questions as to whether this becomes unnecessary bulletin board material for the Trojans.  (Those Huskers are already planning their post-game celebration!)

In any event, trying to avoid a repeat of what happened at Missouri in 2003 would probably be a good idea.

What do you think about the UNL Police asking fans to stay off the field after the USC game?
Let's not worry about the goal posts until AFTER the game...

Quit giving USC anything else to fire them up...

Not necessary. USC isn't bringing enough fans to be able to tear down the goal posts anyway.

Good idea! Nebraska's program is at a level that we don't need to be rushing the field.

Pfffffft

Like we're gonna tear down the goal posts in Lincoln and schlep them back to LA. Dude, you can't get a Bic pen through airport security without a hassle these days.

Good luck Saturday!

Cops can say what they want

If 10,000 students decide they're going onto the field, there's no stopping it.

I don't know if it's possible

to tear down those goal posts anymore.

Seriously.... I watched at Iowa State a few years ago while the students tried to tear that one down. Damn, they're sturdy. After a while, the students gave up, and many left, but some die-hards stayed. I stood next to an ISU cop and watched another ISU cop mace students as they tried to jump back on the goal post.

The damn thing didn't budge. At all. I think you'd need a tank to tear them down now.

In any case, it was one of the stupidest moments in humanity that I remember. An ISU policeman, standing and prominently showing his can of mace, then macing any student as they ran up and tried to touch the goal post in some giant game of kick the can. It was amusing and sad, but then the students all ended up with stories they could tell their grandkids.

Go Big Red!

Reinforced

Maybe ISU had some concrete reinforced goalposts.  I know K-State put in some like that, and I heard you damn near needed a nuclear explosion to move them.  I think it's a better idea to get those collapsible ones that you can bring down in about five seconds.

goal post deconstruction

You just need to have a handful of steelworkers in the mix--post victory.  The real security issue in this game will be getting the large steel skill saws thru the gate.

Like a Big Red victory, it CAN be done!

post game celebration

If Big Red conquers the Romans Sat. night, police and security will have about as much of a chance of keeping fans off the field as they would trying to prevent Niagra Falls from...well....falling!

I look forward to purchasing a piece of auctioned off goal post scrap!

Go Big Red!
