Big 12 Roundtable - The Face of the Team

Big 12 Roundtable – The Face of the Team

Pick one current player to be the "Face of the Franchise" for your team. You can only select one player so tell us why you selected the person that you did.

Ndamukong Suh. He is one of many who work tirelessly without much credit, but we know what he does.
He is the defensive force in the middle that will make the 3-4 go. He is the force that will take on the double teams. He doesn't need mediclorines. He is the one that will make foolishness of the idea that our defensive line is weak.

Tell us what makes your team’s stadium great, traditions, facilities, etc...

What makes Memorial Stadium great is all of the memories that I have from the place over the years. I met a lot of great people during my time at the University of Nebraska, made a lot of friends, many of whom I still keep in touch with. Each one of them influenced me in a different way, contributing to the person that I am today (I'll let you decided whether that's a good or bad thing!).

Other than that, it's the fact that a team from the middle of nowhere has been kicking other people's butts for a long, long time. It's the Sea of Red. It's the memory of "The Hopping Cop" guy and "Seven UP!".

I could care less if the stadium is great to anyone else. It's great to me. That's all that counts. I'm a selfish bastard like that. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Hypothetical – Your team has to vacate their current stadium and play a game in another Big 12 stadium which one would you pick for them to play in and why?

The obvious would be DKR in Austin, but, geez, that's too obvious. So, I'll just say that we'd invade Colorado and take over their stadium. When I say invade Colorado, I really mean invade Colorado. Push the natives down, take over their land kind of thing. Maybe get a gob of guys with big squirt guns that shoot holy water, and after a couple hundred of the heathens melted, the rest would get the idea and allow us to transport them to Southern California where they'd be happy, safe from us, and live out the rest of their lives joining causes.

Not all of Colorado, mind you. We'd leave Colorado State and the Air Force Academy alone. But Boulder, yes. Invade that, take their stadium. Hell, the rest of Colorado would probably help us in the effort.

Unthinkable – Take your team’s biggest rival’s head coach and make a case as to why he would be a good fit on your sideline.

We used to have a rival that we played every year. That was Oklahoma. Now we don't really have a rival any more. Thanks for bringing it up.

Everyone is trying to force Colorado upon us as a rival, but I am not taking that bait as Dan Hawkins would not be a good fit at Nebraska. Nothing against the Hawk, but I don't think it'd work out very well. I like Dan Hawkins. I wonder what would happen if he and Mike Leach did a show together.

As the Big 12 goes, I'm starting to see Texas as more of a rival. We didn't beat Oklahoma all that often years ago, but when we did, it was SWEET. Same thing now for Texas. Plus if you look at volleyball and baseball, Texas is comparable to the teams we're fielding, plus Husker fans who love those sports love the competition between those two teams.

Given that, Mack Brown would work well at Nebraska.  He's a down-to-earth kind of guy, some might say he's even corny. Not really flashy, has that "awe shucks" about him that Nebraskans like. We could teach him that squinty-eyed stare into the sun that all the best cowboys have if he moved to Lincoln. He recruits well. He wins most of the time. I'd take him. He could even keep his drawly accent.
