College Baseball Hits Around the Nation

Our buddies at Building the Dam have their Pac-10 baseball week in review prepared, while the guys at Roll Bama Roll have the SEC Review.

The Houston Chronicle talks about all them Texas schools and how big an advantage it is to host a regional in the coming NCAA baseball tournament. Look at those Texas schools and their RPI ratings:

2 - Rice
3 - Texas
6 - Texas A&M

Now, you realize that the top eight teams are 'national seeds' and will not only get a Regional, but will get a SUPER Regional as well (given they win their regional). This is why it's important to get that RPI as high as possible.

The  Baseball Analysts have a nice article on that home run hittin' Longhorn Kyle Russsell.

Last weekend, Minnesota scored 53 runs in four games against Illinois. Minnesota is currently ranked 20th in the RPI, as this year's team has gotten to 30 wins faster than any team since 1993.

Michigan apparently decided that they wouldn't be left out of the mix as they blasted 50 runs and 61 hits against Michigan State in four games over the weekend. Michigan has now won 24 of their last 26 games - incredible.

Rivals has updated their 'Eight for Omaha' feature.

Their eight this week:

  • Texas
  • Vanderbilt
  • Rice
  • Arkansas
  • Florida State
  • Virginia
  • Ole Miss
  • San Diego

And just yesterday, USA Baseball announced the names of the 50 semi-finalists for the Golden Spike Award given out to the best amateur player in the nation.

40 college and universities are represented on the 2007 semi-finalist list. Among conferences, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) landed 10 players on the list, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) 9 players, the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) 6 players, and the Big-12 Conference 5 players.

Big 12 Players on the list include:

  • Kyle Russell, Texas (duh)
  • Kyle Nicholson, Texas A&M
  • Adrian Alaniz, Texas
  • Corey Brown, Oklahoma State
  • Mach Tyler, Oklahoma State
