Week 11 Husker Report Card: Kansas State
OK, raise your hand. How many of you predicted a Husker blowout of Kansas State. Yeah right. Liars... :-)
Kind of felt good, didn't it, though?
Offensive Line: A- Good pass protection all day; could have used a few more holes to open up in the running game though.
Running Back: ARoy Helu ran hard. Marlon Lucky not only ran hard, but also broke tackles on TWO (yes, count 'em! TWO!) runs. Would have liked to have seen more from the young backs in the fourth quarter...more to follow on this one.
Quarterback: A+ I'll go ahead and say it. Me thinks Callahan picked the wrong quarterback to open the season as starter. There you go! Joe Ganz has better mobility and grasp of this offense. He sees the field better than Sam Keller as well
Wide Receivers: A A fine performance by just about everyone.
Defensive Line: B+ Hey...was that a pass rush I saw? Ty Steinkuhler made some huge contributions yesterday.
Linebackers: B Still fighting off injuries, but Steve Octavien was all over the field contributing.
Secondary: A Tierre Green and Cortney Grixby helped bring some pressure on Josh Freeman on blitzes. Anthony Blue made his first start as a true freshman and played well. Prince Amukamara had the play of the game running down a KSU receiver from behind; he has some serious speed.
Coaching: A OK, these guys have had an awful year. But this staff put together a nice plan on both sides of the ball. They get a good grade for this week.
Sportsmanship: F What the hell is Joe Ganz doing in the game in the fourth quarter throwing the ball all over the place, including two touchdown passes. Ron Prince wasn't about to complain about it, but that doesn't make it right. Not very classy, Bill.
Overall: A A great performance by the Big Red.
Elsewhere in College Football:
Ohio State: F A horrible week in Columbus for the Buckeyes. The basketball team lost to D-2 Findlay. The hockey team got swept by Nebraska-Omaha. And the football team lost their BCS dreams by losing to Illinois.
Boston College: D Their dream season is crumbling.
Michigan: D+ Got caught looking ahead to the Buckeyes, didn't 'ya?
Kansas: A They just keep on winning. Who'da thunk it...Mizzou/Kansas a prime time ABC telecast with ESPN Gameday there?
Miami-Florida: 0 What a way to close out the Orange Bowl. Not.
Nebraska D-2 Football: A+ Chadron State and Nebraska-Omaha both gain first round byes in the Division 2 playoffs. At least some Nebraska football teams had great years!

Running up the score?!
Alright so I see your point of why you think it wasn't classy. But I have to say TO used to run the shit out of the score....They killed florida in the National Title game and ran the shit out of the score. Its not always about being classy but either making a statement, gaining confidence with the players who have went through hell and back, getting media attention, and just going back to the old days! There in my opinion is no ammount of points this weeknd that would have made me upset about taking it to KSTATE it was good for the team, program, and fans.

I'm not sure Nebraska ran up the score in 1995...
Florida didn't want to tackle anybody in red in the second half of that Fiesta Bowl. They hung a bunch of points, but pulled all of the starters towards the end of the third quarter.
Marlon Lucky scored the 73rd point with four minutes left in the game. Joe Ganz threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. Nebraska had the big victory they needed already locked up; there wasn't a need to run the score up.

it's
amusing to me that you bring up RUTS in a National Title game.
That is all.

I think,
running up the score only had a small part to do about K-State, maybe for stealing Freeman--which doesn't matter now since we have Joe Montana Ganz.
But, I think it was just a release of alot of pent up frustration for the players AND coaches, like none of the previous foes let the pedal off the metal, so it's like 'screw you League!'
I think Calli was making a statement to oppose all the sh(*&t he's been taking also.

There should be a choice in the poll...
... For "Hard, but Stupid." I don't think any team was more susceptible to the destruction you guys laid upon K-State, than K-State itself. Now if you could just tell us your secret...
... God our game was embarrassing against them.

Cats are in Horns 'head'...

Why I think
BC ran up the score. He had it ran up on him the week before, he is not going to get a chance to run it up on KU next year (at least at NU), so he took it out on the next opponent who gave him a chance to. When KSUcks went for it on 4th and 24 with 28 seconds left in the first half, Prince basicly said we will either win it here or lose it here. I told the guy next to me that "this is the dumbest coaching move I have ever seen. If they throw an incomplete pass we will score and this game is over." He should have punted and pinned us deep and BC would have taken a knee a went to the locker room. Instead BC said if you want to be stupid then try to stop us in the second half. They couldn't.
By the way the guy sitting next to me said it was a good move on RPs part, until we went and scored then he changed his mind. Of course he also told me that BC would announce his resignation on Monday. Dont think that is going to happen either.

That Prince call on 4th and Long was STUPID
He can talk about "Bold and Daring", but that was reckless. Your chances of converting 4th and long are pretty remote, so that gave Nebraska a great shot to pad the lead before halftime. Very dumb move on Prince's part, and Callahan made him pay for it.

Ganz running...
For the first on 4th and 20, when we were up by 40 or something: how crazy, wack, and cool was that?!

How come...
you dont grade special teams? They would get an A+ from me. Great return by CG and an almost td for Jones on a punt return. No big returns given up and perfect on kicks (extra points and fgs) and lots of big kickoffs from Kunlic.

Good observation...
I've graded special teams occasionally in the past, and this week, they played very well this week. Grixby's kickoff return was a thing of beauty. Why didn't I do it? Well, I was in a hurry and hoping to get to bed early, but the pager made that a moot point...

Running up
the score is totally justified.
Its the job of the K-Stink D to stop the Nebraska offense. They couldn't, and Nebraska took them to the proverbial woodshed.
Same thing when the chicken hawks hung 76 on DONU.
I say can the coaches anyway!
WE WANT BO! WE WANT BO! WE WANT BO!

That was fun to watch!

Ouch, I hooked up with some Boston Bruin apparel yesterday and realized I'm superbly outfitted to be a Miz-zoo fan. Salvation Army here I come...
So, looks like OZ's revised memo to Calli this week worked: "....70+ points AGAINST, not ALLOWED--that's NE tradition...!"
That game was so amusing I almost broke my funny bone!
Joe 'Montana' Ganz. Joey, the Joe-ster, The Joe-meister, Joey-rooski, the Joey-nator!
Where has this team been all year? Albeit, Mild-Acts put the 'Q' in quirky and they run a vanilla O that Coz can scheme for, but this game was just what the shrink ordered for Husker Nation.
It was awesome seeing Freeboy on his Keester and those deer-in-the-headlight eyes and Prince gazing into a huge can of unsportsman-like WHOOP-A$$!
WOOHOO!
Like the Wizard of OZ says: "there's no place like HOME"; that is, the 'Home' of Big Red traditional blowouts
