Bill Callahan Thinks You're the Dumbest Fans In America

Before I started this blog, I'd spent about 18 years writing in the computer industry. A lot of that writing was centered around the taking very complex subjects and breaking them down so that lay people (non-technical) could understand  what I was trying to say.

It took effort but that effort had to be made if I wanted my readers to understand what I was saying.

Given that, here's what we get from head coach Bill Callahan today:

Question: What kind of adjustments could you have made?

Callahan: Oh, I think it's probably too technical for you, but I think in the broad spectrum of adjustments, just playing the quarterback a little bit better on the zone read in terms of the front assignments... I don't want to get into coachspeak, but there were a lot of things in terms of front adjustments that you have to deal with. I think our coaches were dealing with that to the best of their ability.

Translation:

  • You're too stupid to understand.
  • I'm not going to bother simplifying it for you because that would take effort.
  • You're not worth the effort it would take.
  • What's this? I seem to have sat on a fork!

Why didn't he just come right out and say what he was thinking?  "We must have the dumbest fans in America."

Oh mannnn....

Every time I feel myself feeling sorry for the guy, something like this comes out. Damn thing is, he could have told it to us straight up, jargon and all, and if we didn't understand it then, we'd Google until we did understand.

His posture and attitude during the tunnel walk video said it all.  Can't we just give him his money and say, "I'm sorry, this just ain't working out. It's not you, really, it's me. But you gotta go."

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

No

we cannot just give him his money and let him leave.

He and Cosgrove created this mess, and they're going to see it through and take all the shit that's thrown at them along the way.

Go Big Red!

Scoring more?

Big Red's inabilty to score more points over the past 3 weeks defies all of my sensibilities.  They have the players and the offensive design.  I love Calli's O when it's clicking, it has power running and a sophisticated passing game.  Any coach speak, whether it's general or technical, just falls on deaf ears to me.  Just move the ball and score, geez!

I don't understand Calli and I don't understand Coz--how can they underachieve so badly?!

It's ree-dunk-u-luz!

Blah, blah, blah....

'gap control'...blah, blah, blah....'out of position'....blah, blah....'not getting off blocks'...yada, yada...'staring down receivers, not reading the checkdowns'...'poor execution'...blah, blah...'one block away from breaking it'.....'not pulling the trigger'.....blah, blah....'they're hurting, we're gonna look at film and make adjustments'.....yada, yada...

I mean really, it's the same sh*&t every week, yet nothing's changed!  How did this guy survive in the NFL for 10 years?!

He didn't

Callahan was a head coach in the NFL for two years. For one of those years he went through something similar to what's happening now, including his calling the Raiders "the dumbest team in America" and his subsequent firing. So, really, how did he go through three years at Nebraska? He coached a (losing) team in the Super Bowl.

We are looking at a man...

...who will never, ever be a head coach again after destroying two programs...  He'll probably bop back into the NFL as an offensive line coach; perhaps a offensive coordinator where he doesn't have to face microphones very often.

Duh.....

This sandhillbilly is just too dumb for Callasham.  This here offense is too technical for me and the rest of my redneck family.  Maybe I should go watch NASCAR.

Just saw...

on Huskerpedia that we are 21 point underdogs at Texas this Saturday. When the hell was the last time NU was a 21 point underdog? Not in my lifetime I am sure. Wow I sure am glad we got rid of that idiot Solich and his useless staff so that we could get these great NFL coaches in here. I can see now what they were doing, they get it to where the point spread gets real big and then bet the farm and even if they lose by 20 they still cover the spread and win lots of money. Smart!!!
