Nebraska: Osborne Named Interim Athletic Director

As if you couldn't seen this one coming yesterday. As if Harvey Perlman didn't already know Sunday. But, it's official, Tom Osborne is the interim AD, coming back from his journey through politics to save us all from Pediocrity.

In Tom We Trust.

Maybe this was planned all along. After all, Devaney got to be athletic director after retiring as head football coach. The only thing that stood between Osborne and that position was Steve Pederson. He had to go, and away he went. That sounds cruel, doesn't it? Far-fetched? Well, it is, so if you hear of someone coming up with that kind of rumor kill it immediately.

The thing that killed Steve Pederson was himself. The same goes for Frank Solich.

Another rumor to kill is the idea that the coaches have already been informed of their fate and that they're to be fired after the Colorado game. Tell me who would have already told them this if there is no one running the athletic department?

Dave Rimington is coming back, and Turner Gill will be the next head coach. Both are possibilities, along with Bo Pelini. Hell, maybe Tom will make himself head football coach. Maybe Bill Callahan will resurrect the season, win the Big 12 North, the Big 12 Championship and get into a BCS bowl. Anything is possible at this point.

Anyone think we can beat Texas A&M this Saturday? Does anyone still care?

TO?!

I've mixed feelings about it:  on the one hand, it seems a bit 'incestuous'and somewhat like a psychological regression--Husker Fan just wantimg that old time feel good thing as an extreme rxn to the extremely poor play of the '07 Huskers; on the other hand, maybe it'll work, but I foresee a complete fb coaching overhaul ahead, and we're 2-3 years minimum from attaining what we thought we would have this year, i.e, a top ten team.

The whole thing is getting mellodramatic at this point.

"We wanr our tradition back", whatever that means.

Perlman

could have told the coaches. Hell maybe the regents told him to tell them. Listen to the talk and you can read between the lines. It will happen. No need to kill it if it is true. Another great day in HUSKER History. One more to go....Nov.24th, 2007.

It's not in Perlman's capacity

to tell the coaches they're fired. And the Regents would be fools if they told him that as well. That's why they hire someone else to do it.

I'm still hoping we get something out of the season. If Bill Callahan is around next year, so be it.

Well.....

they did have an athletic department meeting at 9:30 yesterday morning and Perlman was involved. It could have all went down right then and there. I wasn't there so I dont know but am not foolish enough to think it could not have happened. I am sure that more then football was discussed and it was probably more along the lines of letting the department know it was going to have a new head. But dont for one minute think Mr. Perlman could not fire those jackasses we call coaches.

you're not getting this

I can tell you what happened at the meeting. Perlman informed them of what was going to happen, then he told all of them not to worry that their jobs were secure and that they didn't need to worry about things like that right now.

Maybe in the SEC the head of a university hires and fires coaches, but not at Nebraska. Someone else is going to do that, and it will become their responsibility to evaluate, hire, and fire people because don't forget that if the next guy is unsuccessful, Perlman gets to do this all over again in about four or five years.

Yeah...

and until 4 years ago NU didn't fire coaches and of course the regents don't call the AD or the chancellor and yada yada yada. And big money boosters (Dan Cook, David Sokol) dont withhold their donations because of what goes on with the football team and they dont call the chancellor either and dont demand that things go their way in order for them to give money to the U. What ever!!!

No...

it has nothing to do with that. It just cuts off the last two or three words sometimes. Other times it doesn't.

NU Football

Can we focus on something more important in this State, like when are we going to get meaningful tax relief?
