Jay Norvell to UCLA

Jay Norvell is leaving the Good Life to become the offensive coordinator at UCLA. As we speculated this morning, Norvell is leaving to advance his professional career by becoming a full-fledged offensive coordinator.

Family life and the health of his wife were other big factors, although oddly enough these were not factors when considering a head coaching position in either Ames (Iowa State) or Boston College. From Husker Extra:

Norvell said another consideration in taking over at UCLA was the health of his wife, 38-year-old Kim Norvell, who has cystic fibrosis. The couple has one child, 6-year-old Jaden.

"The Bay Area was probably the best climate for her," Norvell said. "The temperature was in the 60s and 70s most of the year, and it's not humid. Southern California will be a great environment, too."

At the least, Nebraska will need to find a new quarterbacks coach, and possibly someone to help Bill Callahan with his strategerizin'.

The guys at Bruins Nation don't expect much, as they are not exactly pleased with head man Karl Dorrell. Check the comments section. I guess if the only game I had to reference was the USC game, I'd be worried about what my offense would look like too.

I sincerely hope Nebraska fans don't take this as some sign that he didn't like Nebraska or being at Nebraska. The days that coachs stayed around for 10 years before moving on are gone. The idea that John Blake and Jay Norvell leaving has as much to do with opportunities as it does with problems at Nebraska.

I'd love to hear anyone's comments about John Blake and Jay Norvell leaving. Might as well get it off your chest here as anywhere else.

Goodbye
and good riddance I say. I am glad he is gone. What the hell were we paying him for anyway? I think the only reason he had the OC title was because people thought Frank should have hired one and Steve told BC he had to at least name one even if he didnt do anything and because it gave him more money. I dont think he would have been at NU if he would have only gotten paid what a qb coach would have made. I see that all they did was move Watson to the OC postion. Anyone think that he will actually make a play call in his tenure? I would guess not.

As for Blake, I think he was the only decent coach we had. He did a good job with the D-line and was a good recruiter. I think he will be sorely missed.

I guess at least now Bill can say he made some coaching changes to try and right the ship, though I pesonally believe the only coaching change that will do any good will be to get rid of Bill and the rest of this staff.

i Wasn't Aware the Ship needed 'righted'
We've improved year to year under Callahan. Yet, people still complain.

Look at what we've created!

Improved?
I guess that is a matter of opinion. After the first year there was no where to go but up. I dont really see that we are any better now then we were 4 years ago so I guess improvement is a matter of opinion. Were we really an improved team against KU or OSU? Were we really an improved team against USC or Auburn? If we hadn't improved after the first year we wouldn't even be having the discussion of if Bill should stay or go because he wouldn't even be here. Probably the same after last year. Remember the games with Mizzu and KSU? The only good team we beat this year was aTm. I honestly do not believe we would have went 5-6 under Solich and his new staff and I think the records would have been better the last two years under them so I really dont see that we have improvement.
