Urban Meyer Fills My Dreams With Dread
It's a bit of a late start this morning. Good thing it's a Friday, as I'm having problems getting started. Mostly, it took me a while to shake a bad dream I had last night.
The whole thing started innocently enough. I was me as "just some guy", living the life, la de da, and all that. Then I was informed I would be coaching a football game against Urban Meyer. I remember the moment at which I was told, and thinking, "Why does something like this happen to me? Why would I have to coach against Urban Meyer? Why me?"

Why Minnesota May Never Be Good At Football (And How That Relates to Nebraska Basketball)
If there was one good thing that happened regarding Nebraska's game against Minnesota last Sunday, it was that Minnesota's staff came away from Lincoln, Nebraska blown away by their tour of the Hendricks Training Complex. The Star Tribune had an article about it, and Tubby Smith headed back north insisting that the Gophers need to upgrade their facilities. I guess it's nice that they were impressed with the facilities because they sure weren't with the Husker basketball team.
I suppose it's a fair trade with Minnesota. It's not like there are a lot of Husker football fans that would be impressed with Golden Gopher football. The football team has been bad for years, seeing some success under Glen Mason, but dropping below ground in the Tim Brewster era.

Are You Excited for Husker Baseball?
Husker baseball begins the season at Peoria, Arizona against Gonzaga in less than 10 days.
The last time we saw Husker baseball, well, let's say that fans stopped giving a damn, the team went straight into the tank, and Mike Anderson got hisself fired. Enter new head coach Darin Erstad, a new conference that's all but irrelevant on a national scale, and no one knows what to expect.
One thing is certain. The Husker athletic department wants you to come back to Husker baseball.
B1G Thinking About a Four Team College Football Playoff
The Big Ten is planning to propose a four-team college football playoff system to supplement, not replace the current bowl structure and BCS. Previously, the Big Ten was one of the fiercest opponents to a playoff system, but now recognizes that many, if not most, college football fans consider the current system a failure. Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips summed it up thusly:
"We have to listen to the fans; we cannot be tone-deaf. The Big Ten is open and curious."
This is not the "plus one" model that's been frequently been proposed, but instead a real playoff system. Oh, it still takes the top four teams in the final BCS standings, but rather than sending those teams to two bowl games as semifinals, the top two teams in the standings will host the number three and four teams in the BCS.

Question of the day: Is Nebraska actually a good defensive team, as they've been labeled?
This question has been bouncing around in my head all season, and you have to wonder after Thursday's loss at Northwestern. Nebraska looked silly, as they continuously opened allowed Wildcat players to get near the rim and take open shots. Conversely, Nebraska was harassed 30 feet from the basket almost all game, and it showed in the final results. So have we seen a decline in Doc's system? What's the deal? Playing soft isn't going to win many games in the Big Ten this season, and Nebraska is now faced with an almost impossible task of winning enough games to qualify for post-season play.
Nittany Lions Beat Down Huskers
The Huskers were thoroughly defeated yesterday, as the returning national champion Nittany Lions marched into Lincoln and devastated the Huskers 31-6. The Lions wasted no time in jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first five matches of the night which included a pin and a technical fall. The point deficit was impossible for the young Husker grapplers to overcome on Senior night at the Coliseum.
