Don't Tweet at Recruits: A Warning

On behalf of the compliance staff, we are in need to remind alumni, fans, and boosters that recruiting prospects is an NCAA violation. It has been brought to our attention by several high school football prospects that fans have been badgering them and recruiting them by private messaging them on Twitter. Our coaching staff in the football offices that work hard to recruit prospects had to stop recruiting a number of prospects because of these actions. Because of the ease in which people communicate online with each other today, we thought an educational message is appropriate to clear up any confusion that exists about contacting recruits. NCAA rules and regulations are complex to say the least, but one area that is completely straightforward is fan communication with recruits. If any fans, boosters, alumni (or any other supporters) of Wisconsin has any contact (e.g., in-person, instant message, text message, e-mail, fax, etc.) whatsoever with a recruit there are could be serious consequences such as: The University of Wisconsin would have an NCAA violation to report to the NCAA enforcement staff; The recruit would become ineligible to participate in athletics at Wisconsin, and before any of our coaches could continue to contact the recruit, we would have to rule him/her ineligible and then seek reinstatement through the NCAA office; and The fan/booster/alumni involved could jeopardize their standing with the University of Wisconsin athletic department. If you have any questions, you can reach us at www.uwbadgers.com/compliance Thank you.

Mike Riley Announces Departure of Charlton Warren

+

Statement from University of Nebraska Head Football Coach Mike Riley: "Charlton Warren has informed me of his plans to take a similar coaching position at another university. This is an opportunity that Charlton feels is right for him and his family, and I respect his decision. We appreciate the valuable role Charlton has played in our transition to the University of Nebraska and wish him and his family nothing but the best. Charlton is an outstanding man and a bright, energetic football coach with a great future ahead of him in this profession. "We will search for a talented teacher, coach and recruiter to fill the open position on our defensive staff. This is a high priority, but we will take the necessary time to find the individual who is the right fit to help lead the young men in the University of Nebraska football program."

Petition To Re-Instate Avery Moss

+
There is a petition to re-instate Avery Moss. What I find most disturbing about the decision was that they waited so long. If that isn't the meaning of bureaucratic apathy, I'm not sure what is.

Avery was told that he would be hear back from the those who have the final say about a decision, before Christmas break. After waiting nearly two weeks after Christmas and not hearing any word back from the school's administration or anyone else involved, Avery called to see what the hold up was and when he called, he was told that the UNL administration and Title XI coordinator Arturo Perez, were on vacation and Avery must wait until they returned for a ruling. Tim Miles Applies For Winter Sports Director

I'm not much for face or body painting but I do like to go commando for gamedays. It really gives that level of freedom that I need for inspiration. I think a tradition like this would take the Red Zone to the next level.

Jack Hoffman Is No Longer In Remission

17

Today we were humbly reminded that when your child has an inoperable brain tumor, that anything can happen at any point in time. Despite Jack's tumor being declared in remission (stable) last October, today we learned that that is no longer the case. While we left Boston in April with the knowledge that there was a "spot of concern", we nonetheless remained optimistic that it was just nothing. - Andy Hoffman
