1987. OSU 5-0, Nebraska 5-0. And what a cast of characters: Keith "End Zone" Jones, Thurman Thomas, Ken Clark, Mike Gundy, Neil Smith, Hart Lee Dykes, Broderick Thomas, Barry Sanders, and Steve Taylor all played in this game, plus a few more I'm likely forgetting who went on to try their luck in the NFL. Huskers went home happy - here's hoping the trip home this Saturday night will be similar.

A loyal Husker alum in Houston TX bet a coworker (and UT alum) that the person from the losing school in last Saturday's UT-UNL game would have to eat a bar of soap the following day. If not, he was subject to a $200 penalty, wearing the opposing school's jersey every Saturday for the rest of the football season, and would be slapped once (as hard as possible, without notice) by the winner at any point in the future ("slapbet"). After the disappointing loss, Ben manned up and fulfilled his obligations, with a glass of beer by his side to soak up the sorrow. Google "Nebraska soap bet" or check YouTube for "Ben eats soap" to view all of the sites which have picked it up. There are two videos; some only feature the first, so look around to find the entire 24-minute series. BONUS: It has been picked up by ESPN! Check out The Beat on ESPN News (channel 402 on Comcast / 604 on U-Verse for people in Houston). It should be on today at 5:00 CDT.

Huskers fall to #13 in Coaches' Poll

Really, not as bad as I thought. Still 3 spots ahead of undefeated Missouri and 2 spots ahead of undefeated Oklahoma State.

Taylor Martinez Has the Touch

Great story about Nebraska's quarterback, and how he helped his father, who was quite the player for Iowa State, deal with the breakup of his marriage and career.

Crick planning on skiping his senior season?

"Our mindset stays the same," senior defensive tackle Jared Crick said. "We don't think, 'This is the last time …' For me and a lot of the guys, it's the last time we're playing anyway."

Chris Brown, author of the X's and O's blog SmartFootball.com, noticed during last week's game that on Martinez's 35-yard second-quarter touchdown run, Nebraska used what he calls the "inverted veer," a modern spin on a classic option play. The quarterback and running back both run to the side of the unblocked end, but whereas the running back would traditionally cut inside, I-back Rex Burkhead in this case continued outside while Martinez pulled the ball and made the cut himself.

SI expose on agents in college football

Curious about other Husker fans' thoughts on this. I feel a little dirtier as a college football fan after reading this, and I'm forced to acknowledge that as much as I always want to believe the Huskers are squeaky clean, they can't be, because no big-time program is. Especially after employing John Blake as a coach.

Nebraska / Texas Preview – Nebraska O vs. Texas D

The Huskers have been the most impressive team in our pillow fight of a league, featuring an offense invigorated by Taylor Martinez’s feet and a defense fueled by an elite secondary and the Pelini’s brothers distilled paranoia.
