There are no Husker events on the calendar for today, but tomorrow (Thursday) gets busy with men's and women's basketball and baseball on the docket.
The normally-reliable softball team is off to a historically bad start (0-8). They are a very young team playing a murder's row schedule, including the three top teams in the country. Hopefully they find a way to bounce back and get through the growing pains.
Don't look now, but the women's basketball team finally put together a complete game and beat a good opponent in Indiana. We all figured it would be a rough year for them with a new coach and so much youth, but this team has been head-scratchingly bad at times. Against Indiana, the freshman showed up in a big way, especially point guard Hannah Whitish. She out-dueled an all-Big Ten caliber player in the Hoosier point guard, Tyra Buss. As a result, she picked up the first weekly honor the Husker women have received from the Big Ten office in being named freshman of the week.
We have been enjoying 60 and 70 degree weather here in northeast Nebraska, but that comes to an end tomorrow with a winter storm watch already issued. A fair bit of snow is on the way--and just when I started working on the garden.
Hopefully you are enjoying the same beautiful weather wherever you are.
