Nebraska loses a tough road game against Clemson. A win they definitely would have liked to have had. Clemson could very well be an NCAA Tournament team this season, Nebraska had the ball with 2.7 seconds left, Webster had the shot to tie the game but couldn’t connect and the Huskers lose. Nebraska is a young team and growing pains are going to happen all season. This non-conference schedule is tough but could help the Huskers going into Big Ten play. But they need to beat South Dakota on Saturday afternoon. Because next week they host Creighton on Wednesday and go to Allen Field House on Saturday at Kansas. Oh and that is arguably the toughest place to play in College Basketball! If Nebraska could somehow split those two games, it could make for a really fun season.
The Good
Nebraska did have some players step up in this game. Glynn Watson had 20 points and shot 9-19 from the field. Let me tell you, this kid is a stud and can really shoot the ball well. Nebraska will need him to step up this season to win some games. Tai Webster had 12 points in this game and he looked really good in the first half. Michael Jacobson also had a surprising 11 points in this game as well. Nebraska does however need their bench to play better. They only had five bench points in this game, that’s not good enough.
The Bad
Turnovers have been a problem for this team all season, and that continued on Wednesday night. Nebraska had 17 turnovers in this game, that is really unfortunate. On the bright side, Clemson also had 17 turnovers in this game as well. The Huskers are going to have to fix this turnover issue, and they need to do it fast. Like I said earlier, the schedule doesn’t get any easier down the stretch. Fouls were also a problem in this game. Nebraska shot 4-7 from the free throw line. But Clemson shot 17-22 from the line. That’s an astounding stat and honestly why they probably lost this game.
What’s Next?
Nebraska has a very winnable game on Saturday against South Dakota. That would push their record to 5-3 with a win. Creighton and Kansas are the toughest non-conference games on the schedule, and they are both next week. Two top 10 teams. Nebraska NEEDS to beat South Dakota because those other two games are very tough. We will see what happens. Huskers play at 1:00PM against South Dakota on Saturday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
