T.O. to Honor Counter Trap Inventor Tenopir - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site
Who invented the counter trap plays the Buckeyes used to wear out and defeat Oregon? Milt Tenopir, and thank you for asking because Nebraska’s fabled offensive line coach will receive the first annual Tom Osborne Legacy Award – presented by Osborne – at Thursday night’s annual Outland Trophy Dinner in downtown Omaha.
I love Tom Osborne, and who can't love Milt Tenopir, but creating an award named the Osborne award, then giving it to Tenopir is like entertainers creating more awards and then presenting themselves with it.
Isn't it?
From the article, here's more of a description of the award.
Beginning Thursday night, the Football Writers Association of America will honor a coach or a player who made contributions to the Outland Trophy or interior line play in college football. Tenopir is a model recipient to meet that criteria, but the award also can be presented to a former lineman who made great contributions to the game through charity or community work.
Tenopir has been fighting cancer over the past year, so the timing is appropriate (why wait to award something to someone after they're gone?), and can you have too many awards named after Tom Osborne?
Does Dave Rimington get it next year? He's been working for the Boomer Esiason Foundation for years now. Can't get a lot more charity/community-oriented than that, can you?
Or maybe I'm just some cranky old guy who's never going to attend an awards ceremony and resents the very nature of them.
Your thoughts?
