After one week, Nebraska's offense is #2 in total offense, beaten out by Arizona State by a paltry three yards and Ameer Abdullah is fifth in the country in rushing yardage. Defensively, Nebraska ranks 12th in total defense.
Those numbers might seem like they don't mean much, especially considering all them fancy advanced football statistics you're seeing nowadays, but if we were 89th in total offense and 112th in total defense, you'd sure as hell be screaming about it. In other words, those simple rankings matter.
The Big Ten had a pretty decent opening weekend with everyone but Northwestern and Wisconsin winning their games. Northwestern tried to come back against Cal, and Wisconsin... well, the Badgers blew a 24-7 lead and lost.
Melvin Gordon is 22nd, because... oh, look, they've explained it away.
Gary Andersen, Melvin Gordon talk 'misunderstanding' regarding injury vs. LSU - Bucky's 5th Quarter
After a day to digest Wisconsin's loss to LSU, Melvin Gordon and Gary Andersen each met with reporters Monday to discuss why he received so few second-half touches Saturday night.
This sounds like bullshit to me, but I wouldn't mind hearing your take on it.
It sounds to me like Gary Anderson didn't know what was going on, that there was a communication problem, and I'm sticking with my idea that his offensive coordinator is a twit. Gordon was in the second half of the game. If he's on the field, he's playing. It doesn't make sense to say he had an injury when he was still on the field. Either you're injured or you're not.
That game still frustrates me because it was a chance for the Big Ten to win a high profile game against the SEC.
