Penn State Sanctions Reduced

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9716482/ncaa-reduce-penalties-penn-state-regarding-jerry-sandusky-child-sexual-abuse-matter

Starting in the 2014-2015 year, Penn State is going to be able to sign 20 players a year instead of 15 (still less than the customary 42 in the SEC and 25 everywhere else). It's big news for Penn State as it dramatically reduces the harm that the sanctions will do to their football program and probably increases their odds of hanging on to Bill O'Brien, who I think is a really good coach.

Personally I think it's a travesty. I don't think Penn State got the full force of what they deserved the first time around (I thought a year off from football plus a loss of 10 scholarships for 4 years was appropriate). In any case, the NCAA manages to undermine their credibility yet again, as they back off of one of the few strong penalties they imposed on a school (which the school agreed to!).

I'm sure this will be the subject of some debate going forward.
