Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

To the suprise of no one paying attention, the Big Ten has named Husker freshman Shavon Shields their freshman of the week. Shields more than earned the award, scoring 47 points vs. Purdue and Penn State combined while also collecting 14 rebounds.

Saturday's break out performance vs. the Nittany Lions fell two points short of breaking the Nebraska freshman record for scoring in a game, a record set by Tyronn Lue in 1996.

Shields and his teammates hit the hardwood again Tuesday evening as they host Illinois. Tip off is at 7:30 pm CT and can be seen on BTN.
