Nebraska Baseball: Huskers vs Gonzaga Bulldogs Open Thread!
Time: 8:00 p.m. CT
Location: Peoria Sports Complex, Peoria, Arizona
Television: None
Web Streaming: None
Radio: Husker Sports Network (Greg Sharpe and Lane Grindle)
Live Stats and Internet Radio: huskers.com
Welcome to the first Nebraska baseball game of the 2012 season, the first of the Darin Erstad era, and the first as a member of the Big Ten conference!
Tonight's game will feature Huskers sophomore LHP Zach Hirsch going up against Bulldogs sophomore LHP Marco Gonzales. Hirsch is making his first start for the Huskers, while Gonzales pitched well enough in his freshman campaign to be named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year. Gonzales 11-game winning streak is tied with three other pitchers for the second-longest season in the nation.
Keep in mind that these are open threads. They are not restricted solely to Husker baseball talk. There may be times this season CN opens a game thread on Friday night that will be used the entire weekend. You're free to discuss whatever you wish, Huskers or not. I only ask you avoid religion and politics.
iPhone users can download the "Huskers" app and listen to streaming through their phone. You can also download the SB Nation iPhone and Droid apps and follow our game threads on those.
I will be at a lock-in for the night with a bunch of teenagers. Lucky me. I'll be checking in periodically with my iPhone, so please be posting some scores and innings for me. - JJ

Ok, listening to the radio stream half heartedly while studying,
Did they say something about the Twins that I missed or am I imagining things? haha sorry, if you hadn’t noticed by the name I am primarily a Twins fan and I’m dying for spring training at this point
"The problem with baseball is that it is not played year round" -Gaylord Perry
Maybe talking about what's-his-name that's a SP for the Twins that played for Nebraska?
Marsden?
.
.
.
Bueller?
(also your a Twins AND Tigers fan? How does that work?)
haha Duensing is the only one I can think of.
And no, there were a bunch of us from TT hanging out with BYB during the playoffs, I like Verlander so they were kind of my playoff team this year. Can’t stand them in the regular season though :)

haha I don't know if I've heard of those other guys...
I’ve only really been a baseball since like 6th grade and haven’t really followed the Huskers that closely, but when I get a chance to listen/watch a game I’m always cheering Huskers :) Also I heard them say something about one guy being from Redwing MN, maybe I heard MN and just added Twins to the end of it

I'm sure Nebraska recruits hard in the Great Plains states
cuz trying to get Texas and California kids to come here might be difficult.
I know under Anderson, and Van Horn before him, they recruited Iowa and Colorado hard since those states barely have programs at all
(trollgaze toward Iowa City)
That would make sense,
I don’t know many people who are used to warm weather who are willing to come up and deal with MN winters, have to imagine its the same with Nebraska.
Also my brother told me that the Hawkeyes had a good baseball team… was he lying and trying to get me to like is home state? (I assume that’s what you mean by Iowa City..)

That makes me laugh
The only good thing I have ever discovered in Iowa is a great coffee shop but seeing as I’m not a coffee drinker I don’t think it’ll persuade me to pursue a college in Iowa.

I've narrowed it down to two (in my sports loving mind)
but I’d need some serious scholarships for either seeing as my mom refuses to help pay my tuition if I go anywhere not in MN IA WI SD or ND.. I’m hoping Nebraska or Baylor though haha

MN and WI would be good calls (plus in state tuition or whatever)
But Nebraska is really bad ass
(and Waco sucks)
I guess I want to get out of state,
The hope is I get either a softball or basketball scholarship so I can go either Nebraska or Baylor (also I’ve never been to Waco, but I do love the Bears too, but if I absolutely had to pick it would probably be Nebraska:)

especially for poor college students who are short on cash and need a free meal
they don't live near Waco though,
but my friend said I can adopt her uncle who is also a Huskers fan lol

I’m in 3 sports (Ok well I’m quitting volleyball and maybe picking up cross country so kind of 2 and a half? but basketball or preferably softball) and maintain a 3.87 GPA. I actually need to start looking at the program I’m interested though, anyone want to tell me how the pre-med program is at Nebraska?

Yeah don't listen to me
if you are a decent athlete and got a good GPA then schools will be breakin’ down your door with schollies
I'm not really that great,
I’m only on C team for basketball (I’m a starter though and JV coach says I’d be the first call up if a post got injured on JV, but still, that’s not all that great.) And I’m told I’m good at softball, some people seem convinced I’m going to be on varsity as a starter (our starting varsity catcher and first baseman graduated last year so I have double the chance according to my friends but I don’t know)
