Three games in and we have seen glimpses of the "D" that we know and love mainly in the 3rd quarter against the Huskies. Have the brothers Pelini really released the Blackshirts in attack mode or are they keeping their hand close to the chest? See my opinion after the jump.
The Husker defense is, at the moment, the most questionable facet of the 2011 Huskers, they have allowed teams to roll up yards on the ground and through the air almost as though they are simply a speed bump as opposed to a stone wall.
The young secondary is not too impressive they are consistently inconsistent, with the return of Alfonzo Dennard expect that to become a distant memory. The front four are not living up to the bill yet but I think a large part of that has to do with Bo's attempt at being deceptive as we start the inaugural B1G conference play against a powerful Wisconsin team.
I know they have all seen game film from years past but having not played Nebraska in recent years has to put a lot of focus on what we've displayed this year and the film says the the Blackshirts will let you get some yards with little resistance because they can lean on an offense that DOES what it wants. The offensive line we saw against the Huskies was on point and even before that the offense has been one play away from scorching the opposing defense, That is a mirror image of the last three seasons or so. The references to 1995 just makes my mind explode with happiness. I know most of you reading this are saying this team is NOT the 1995 team but think for a minuet, with this offense and a defense like last years and that is essentially what you have and when Oct 1, 2011 appears on your calendar I think we see that defense come out with Alfonzo Dennard like a pack of starving dogs and the college football world left in confusion and amazement at this Husker team as they ask themselves, "where was this team weeks one through four?". Right now they are sitting in the cellar chained up waiting to be released. Let's hope my gut is smart.
Lastly does anyone find it to be curious that Tom Osborne issued a request that Husker Nation Blackouts Camp Randall and then the "Black Helmet" photo was released and quickly retracted? I guess we'll have to wait two more weeks to find out but please let your opinion show in my poll.
