Black Helmets:
The equipment guys said it was a “joke”, apparently a staged picture.
Hmmm…we shall see in a few weeks….
They're 18 to 22...how perfect were you at that age?
The Power of Red begins with the Passion of Walk-Ons.
That's because the defense didn't make any plays, not because the gloves don't exist.

I don't get the glove thing.
A lot of teams are apparently wearing them, but, except for the promotional photos, when are they ever positioned perfectly to see what the heck they display or represent?

Well it can be pulled off pretty well
Like the first image that comes to mind is mark ingram scoring that TD and showing the “A” on his hands…pretty iconic stuff. I just don’t think its for us, we already have so much tradition, and we’re pretty established, so I don’t get trying to manufacture some “wow” factor with these, when all they need to do is throw the bones.
by Fake Pelini on Sep 17, 2011 7:51 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Iconic? really
I wouldn’t say that… sometimes its kind of cool but please, iconic? Yeah no. I like the old fashioned throwing the bones then go about pulverizing the opponents QB. Too many fans worry about new uniforms and helmets and gloves… Thats all window dressing. Substance over style

But its going to be tough to go 3-0 if they keep handing UConn the ball.

Here's what frustrates me about UConn
The fact that if Shawn Watson had just let Rex Burkhead run the wildcat and get into range for Alex Henery in the 4th quarter, it could have been us playing in the Fiesta Bowl, which we would have won handily and finished the season at 12-2. This is not a team that deserves to be in a BCS bowl while teams like Nebraska are relegated to crappy bowl games that no one cares about. UConn is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the BCS system.
The quicker we get to super conferences the faster we get to a post season tourney
And get past all of this BCS…BS
Sir
you are singing to the choir, at least in my case.
And why have we not used sexy Rexy yet in the wildcat this year?
And please don’t mention Watson.

We need more Rex this year.
Period. Hope we see plenty of him tomorrow. As for the wildcat…I don’t know if it would be as successful this year if our line can’t get him more than 1.5 yards a carry on normal plays.
for
all the complaining we do.. they know Burkhead is reliable – hence the carries he got in the fourth quarter.
they have to get the young players involved early in the season to get them some experience.
plus, they’re saving Burkead for conference play. It’s not a bad thing.

Guess I didn't look at that way
Maybe I’m biased because Burkhead is probably my favorite player. He’s a reliable, hard-working guy who never quits until the whistle blows. He’s also a humble team player, and now a leader. Burkhead is probably the best representation of what Nebraska football is that we’ve seen in a long time. Plus he throws the ball sometimes, making him even more awesome!
Obviously everyone else knows this, so I’m preaching to the choir here. But the more Burkhead the better.
think about it this way
if he gets injured during non-conference play – where at we entering wisconsin? :)

They're also using
another extremely valuable player in very risky situations…Lavonte David in return coverage, one of the biggest situations for risk of injury. This, I don’t understand.
And, Billgrip, you are spot-on in your assessment of Burkhead. Watching his fight and desire takes me back to the TO days. Heart, attack, dedication, intelligence, all neatly wrapped in one player. But we sorely need some games where the young ones can gain some experience. And I really thought they would have gotten those chances through the first two games.
It’s gonna happen tomorrow.

How many of you
watched the tape of last week’s game?
There is that one segment that I have to watch over and over, and it involves both the Ameer Abdullah’s 100-yard return and Bo.
After the return and the replay, they show what Bo was doing on the sideline…facing the bench and…ahem…instructing some defensive players, when, all of a sudden the players are flying off the bench to watch Ameer. The camera stays on Bo, and he has the most confused, befuddled look on his face as he walks to the sideline, groping for his head-set.
Priceless and precious.

Yea I was wondering just what the heck he was doing in that he did not see that return
Was a classic whaaaaaa? reaction.
I can
figure out what he was doing…chewing some D-butt. But when they all flew away from him like birds from gunfire, he looked so absolutely lost, as if he couldn’t hear 80,000 plus people screaming they’re lungs out.
To me, it was just Bo totally involved in “coachin’ ’em up”.

I was really hoping some caught a screen-grab of that.

If it wasn’t for Ameer scoring, I suspect we would’ve had a Bo Pelini explosion and Brian Kelly would’ve been off the hook.

Hi all!
Just got back from “Contagion”.
As a biosciences student, I thought it was actually pretty good. (Some things were…yes, there were liberties taken.)
A scary “it could happen” scenario too. It’s funny when realism is scarier than anything fiction can make up.
And now I’ll be watching ISU-UCONN, because well, Boise looks like they’ve got things under control against the Rockets.

Is it weird that we live in a society that is more terrified of viruses than it is of giant robots invading?

See, that's the thing.
The film really draws out that the real threat of a viral pandemic is not the virus itself but the panic it causes.
It also helps that they keep bringing up the 1918 pandemic. People can identify with that. Hard to identify with invading robots.

I can tell
you’ve not watched many episodes of it. Comic genius, superb actors, with a wonderful thread of true life weaving through it..

I cannot recall ever watching it.
I think it disappeared from the airwaves around the same time I started watching anything that wasn’t a cartoon.

I'm really
pulling for ISU.
Of the teams that will be left out in the cold during re-allignment, they’re the one that I feel for the most.
And they’re the team that gave us one of our most devastating losses, at least in my memory. Can’t even tell you the year, but Osborne was the coach, the game was in Ames, there was snow. It wasn’t televised so I was listening to it on the kitchen radio.
It was a low scoring game, as as it dragged on, I knew we were going to loose.

1992
i don’t think it was snowing then, though.
well…. maybe it did. that was the game I got thrown out of, then helped ISU students tear down the goal posts.

Hell
maybe it was snowing here on the ranch.
But, pray tell, why did you help the enemy with the posts?

Jon,
just read the article, and what a great piece of writing it was.
Don’t puke, but I think it’s a wonderful example of why we’re SOME of the greatest fans in the world.
Or it could be an example of what a semi-drunk expectant father should never do.
Either way, a fantastic read.

I'm a big fan of Paul Rhoads. He's the perfect coach for building a scrappy program like ISU.
He reminds us that football is more than just inches and playbooks.

No worries. Chizzy will fail at Auburn.
Once Malzahn leaves in the off-season, Auburn will crash and burn.

Does ESPN really think people want to sit here and listen to "HE'S A HEISMAN CANDIDATE" for fourteen weeks?
Especially when the player is playing against (no offense intended) low-major FBS and FCS teams?

Beer brats are required, as well as microbrew/craft beer.

Please Boise get a late field goal or TD and cover the spread
Or else I’m starting 0-1 in my college pick em’ league this week…worse things have happened.
I'm glad they could comply!
I still want them to lose to Air Force.

Some predictions for tomorrow...
A Husker win, around 45-13.
A Taylor that looks even more confident than last Saturday’s second half.
A D-secondary with smaller rears (after having them half-chewed off by Bo and Carl this week).
Some supreme receiver catches.
Still a few struggles on both lines.
I’m feeling confident.
