Husker Sombrero Guy - Good, Bad, Or Ugly?
We first encountered Husker sombrero guy after the Chattanooga game when our guy Dennis Hubbard sent us this photo:
|
No idea who he is, nor why he's dressed like that at a Husker football game other than he has one damned big red sombrero, armed to the teeth with corn and looking rather cynical about what's going on in front of him.
Then we saw him again during the Fresno State broadcast, same look, as if he's looking for something that he ain't found yet.
|
When I reviewed the Fresno State game the mystery grew - a panning shot through the crowd revealed that he's armed with a cob and apparently unafraid to use it.
|
The photo puzzled me until I realized that I'd seen him someplace before..... many years ago... in a different land.
|
After all this time he appears unchanged. It was a mystery as to whether he was fighting for good or evil then, or whether he was just out for himself. The mystery remains, as has his unchanged features.
Is he bad? Is his real name Tuco Benedito Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez (known as "The Rat")? A man wanted in 14 counties of Nebraska for crimes of murder, armed robbery of citizens, state banks and post offices, the theft of sacred objects, arson in a state prison, perjury, bigamy, deserting his wife and children, inciting prostitution, kidnapping, extortion, receiving stolen goods, selling stolen goods, passing counterfeit money, and using marked cards and loaded dice?
Or is he good - a protector of Nebraska football, someone who stands for justice and has arrived this year to make sure that Big Ten referees do not penalize us as the Big 12 referees did last season?
Or is he just plain ugly?

Interesting Cobby.
I guess we’ll just have to tune in for more information about this guy as it becomes available.
In the deed, the glory.

He's mighty brazen if he's truly "Tuco Benedito Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez"!

Wasn't he from The Highlander?
That would explain why he remains unchanged from the photo from many years ago.
It would not explain why he doesn’t look like Sean Connery.
Viva La Revelution

I'm guessing he's only a student
So I doubt he has money and can follow the team to all the away games. However, as far as home games are concerned I think he’s trying to be to Nebraska, what this guy is to ohio state:

and yes..
Being a beaner myself, I like the idea of Tuco Benedito Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez better than ohio state’s guy.

Yep that's the guy.
He’s got a buckeye necklace hanging from his neck and has his face painted and all. Looks like an ohio state fan-specific sex toy, probably a very complicated to use, painful sex toy only sold in europe or online.

I Can't Help Noticing
How in the first picture he’s all cozied up hip-to-hip to the blonde on his right. Makes me wonder if maybe we all should get big red Sombreros….

These guys love the Blackshirts

1. I think the stadium needs more originality & self expression, so I for one applaud this guy. As much as I love Memorial Stadium, it can be rather quiet & bland. Good to have some personality & visible passion to liven up the stands.
2. It was polite of him to switch to a smaller sombrero for the second game. I’m sure the people behind him appreciated it.
3. He definitely has a plethora of corn.
Same screen name since AOL- 'cause like many Nebraska fans, I'm stuck in the '90s.
Umm, that would be "mucho"
I like sombrero-bandero guy. He puts the Corn back in Cornhuskers.
(My family were mainly wheat farmers, which is totally cool. I’ve never understood the anti-rural shift to “huskers” in the NU athletic department. What else do you husk, besides corn, and what’s up with being embarrassed by, or trying to hide the rural agrarian nature of the state by getting rid of Corn from Huskers? That’s just lame. It’s not like the place is suddenly going to become Miami, NY or LA (god forbid) by doing that. Rock the rural.)
And this from a guy who lives in NYC but is still a Nebraskan, and never a New Yorker.

"Huskers" was an attempt to make Nebraska cool in the late 90s/early 2000s.
If you go looking through Husker Authentic, there’s definitely a return to the simple ‘N’ or the ‘Iron N’ and far less gear with “Huskers” script on it.
I suspect we’re moving back to “Cornhuskers” and I’m glad.

I got ya Mr X....
Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora.
All of our comments are irrelevant - LetsGoPSU
Is there more than one of them?
In the first shot, the guy next to him has a sombrero and a similar red jacket. Although, otherwise, he’s kind of half-assing the look (why the sunglasses?). Then, at the Fresno game, sombrero guy seems to have downsized to the other guys’ sombrero.

I say ugly
Only because my friends saw him during the first game, and now want the three of us to wear big red sombreros too. I’m refusing.
Considering
the price of corn today, them’s some mighty expensive bullets.
They're 18 to 22...how perfect were you at that age?
The Power of Red begins with the Passion of Walk-Ons.
I love it.
He’s the right kind of crazy for me. Andy, he’ll probably wind up on ESPN during the Wisky game (assuming he’s there).
They are clearly a pair...
Husker and Power. The guy with the stache and corn-shells is 1000x more awesome.
Smaller sombrero = less angry people behind him
This is awesome to see and a great original idea. We need more fans to get creative like this….it adds to the atmosphere. Here are some ideas:
Husker Ninja, all decked out in a full-body black ninja outfit that has the Blackshirts skull and bones on his forehead. He does a karate chop for the camera every time the Blackshirts makes a 3 and out stop.
Husker Waldo, he is wearing red and white is he not?
Nylon man, The all red or all black full-body nylon suit. He would attend the red-out and black out games.
Already two of those
I have seen a Husker Waldo at about every home game the last two years, even inadvertently got a picture of one last game. Also, Nylon “red man” are also at all the home games, also got a picture. Haven’t seen a ninja husker, but they are sneaky and probably there too. It’s impossible to get a picture of the ninja.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!
Love this guy! Not sure why people are hating on the guy. This is just another thing to add to Nebraska’s tradition and originality. Another thing that makes us unique and special. EMBRACE IT!
Love this guy!!!
I hope he is at every game! The corn belts rock!
He's Good
He was handing out yellow flags last year at the Colorado game.
