2012 NEBRASKA COMMIT #6: Who Dat Say Deion Jones?

Deion Jones goes lateral to trip up the ballcarrier.

Let the crawdad and bead jokes commence. Adding some more Louisiana flavor to roster already peppered with Terrence Moore, Khiry Cooper and P.J. Smith, speedy linebacker Deion Jones of new Orleans Jesuit became the sixth verbal commitment of the Huskers 2012 class. He is the second linebacker in a class that could be looking at taking one more.

Jones is ranked as two star recruit, but the coaches may be ahead of the recruiting services on this one. Despite the meager rating, he has amassed 17 offers including ones from Arizona, Illinois, KU, K State, Minnesota, Pitt and TCU. Currently considered undersized at 6' 200 lbs., his high school coach said he projects to weigh around 220 by the time he graduates. Jones' 40 time is listed as 4.43

Hate to be a wet blanket. . but

Seems to be athletic and have good speed, but IMO, it’s less than 50/50 he signs with us. He admits he was waiting for LSU or Alabama but neither offer came, although, LSU seems to have wanted to if he had come to their camp.

The fact is, if he has a good year, LSU will make an offer and I would be shocked if we keep him. I hope we do, but don’t count on it. This is a classic example of a kid committing with hopes of getting a better offer.

Thought about that..

..after I posted, but it almost sounds as if those two have made up their minds that they’re looking bigger.

I always worry about the surprise commitments. No matter how much they claim to have thought it through, many times it ends up being a spur of the moment thing that ends up being repeated with a different school at a later date.

Keep

the Louisiana pipline open. Every year there are a ton of quality athletes in Louisiana and I’m glad Bo has the connections that he has.

Why, Johnny Ringo, you look like someone just walked over your grave.
