Almost as Dumb/Stupid as Legends/Leaders...
….Almost.
But at least it’s better than plagiarizing “Farmageddon” from Iowa State/Kansas State.
I can't even beging to count how many /facepalms this deserves.

Sometimes you just have to realize you're forcing things...
…and just forget about it.
So I hereby dub thee “the Iowa/Nebraska game”. “Heroes” goes into the same dumpster where Legends/Leaders is headed.

It is just as bad as L/L.
It’s from the same mold. I don’t think anyone will remember “The Heroes Game” in 4 months.

Yes they will...
…Kevin Kugler just reported that HyVee is the sponsor of the game. So we’ll see plenty of ads for the “HyVee Heroes Game”
Maybe I’ll start calling it the “Iowa vs. Nebraska game Presented by Fareway”

And this is why I went from just apathy to anger
This touchy-feely Heroes thing at first elicited “oh God, whatever, just play the game”. But now, it’s “Welcome to Monsanto Field at Nile Kinnick Stadium, where the APAC Teleservices Iowa Hawkeyes face off against the rival TD Ameritrade Nebraska Cornhuskers, in the HyVee Heroes Game, presented by Dr. Pepper.”
They have the bowl games, they’re taking the championship games. Can we PLEASE keep them out of the regular season? I’m not a “pay the players” proponent. But the more s*** like this happens, the more I care less if they do.
Amen to that, Brother.

Hit the nail right on the head

Describes the “Heroes Game”. Personally I think there are worse ways to start a generic rivalry but this is far from perfect. The whole inviting random people who have done good deeds thing seems hokey and likely to backfire. Still, using it as an opportunity to raise money for charity is not the worst thing they could have done. I would have left the trophy out of it and just announced they were doing the game for charity and leave the door open for possibly creating a trophy if a reasonable idea presented itself at a later date.

I wonder if the chosen "heroes"
have to make a donation to each athletic department before they get to accept.

exactly.
The community work is great, but they could have made that separate from the trophy.
What makes a good rivalry trophy? Wanting to win it and knowing that when you win it, you break your opponents heart. This trophy is too touchy-feely.
In the deed, the glory.

I would have like to see this series go a few years
before they tried coming up with shit to name it/make it a trophy game.
We're gonna go America all over their asses!
You can't be serious! what the shit?!?
If you remove the references to the teams themselves, the colors even make it look like fucking commie propaganda!
What the fuck does the big ten have against using non-idiotic names? I about ready to sob and tear my acl

I did like the laurels on the announcement poster.
The newspaper writer from the game back in 1891 talked about em.

The only thing we've done is
Make ISU shit their pants because that’s the Cy-Hawk sponsor. This is boring, bland, not memorable and full of fail.
I'll just put COMING SOON down here.
...
Leaders and Legends. The Heroes Game. Are we getting trolled by some PR firm?

Why, Johnny Ringo, you look like someone just walked over your grave.
SEC conspiracy.

A little more info...
“The institutions plan to honor one citizen of Iowa and one citizen of Nebraska prior to each Heroes Game for their extraordinary act. The heroes will be nominated by friends, neighbors or co-workers and will be guests of the two teams at the game. Each will also have their name and hometown etched onto the Heroes Game trophy.”
Nothing against local heroes, but it still feels pretty forced & generic. Axes & pigs & buckets leave this in the dust. Why did we even HAVE to put a name to it right off the bat and not just let it happen naturally?
Because someone is willing to pay millions of dollars to put their name on the trophy
And sponsor it. That’s why.
I'll just put COMING SOON down here.
because
we live in a day and age in which nothing can happen naturally.
Nice idea to honor people but YOU COULD DO THAT WITHOUT THE DUMBEST NAME EVAH !

After the 1st husker touchdown
I’m throwing a sub sandwich.
Google's homepage celebrates too much shit.
WTF
I still think that the loser of this game has to claim Council-tucky for a year and deal with that pile of rubble. What more motivation do you need to win?
As long as Pelini doesn’t promise play-calling duties to our “Hero” maybe this idea will just disappear from the headlines and we can ignore it..
I don't think it's the worst idea in the world,
but I don’t see why this concept has to be part of a trophy game. Go ahead and honor some local heroes at the game. Keep a plaque somewhere, but don’t make the players play for this as their award.
by Trey Hillman's Chin on Jul 29, 2011 8:55 AM CDT reply actions
Idea:
The Heroes Game honorees get to keep the trophy (either two trophies or they split the year). The existence of the trophy game is then forgotten until a real one develops naturally.

I don't know about the name,
But that is one clean logo. I think they nailed that part of it.
by TexasHusker on Jul 29, 2011 9:11 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
Does this mean we can change our Divisions?
Obviously we must be in the Heroes division. Which would make Ohio State and Penn State Villains.
Upgrade
We went from Legends to Heroes…can’t wait ‘til we’re Deities.
Are casual fans gonna bother with the details behind the name, or just think Heroes = Pompous?
Same screen name since AOL- 'cause like many Nebraska fans, I'm stuck in the '90s.

And calling us Legends (or Leaders) isn't pompous?
Besides, we’re already pompous, just ask Iowa.

Well You Know What's Next
The Demigods and the Titans.
They’ll rename the championship venue “The Parthenon” where we all go to worship football.

Call it whatever you want,
but please God, don’t let it look anything like this:

It would be an insult to the teams, the fans, and the heroes.

I don't feel like reading all of these
…. but I don’t think it is the greatest name but I understand it because of the fact that it is for the two stadiums that represent fallen hero’s of the two states. So it really isn’t that terrible and it is FAR better than L/L.
I appreciate
that you have chosen to go against the tide and present a positive opinion.

I agree with you.
Thats why I made my sandwich comment. For what it is, its fine. Its a nice gesture. And to be frank, I highly doubt this becomes a major rivalry game anyway. Good rivalries are not by similar teams/schools/states. Its the differences that matter. Small state redneck OU v. Big oil UT, Private uber school Stanford vs. state not-quite-as-elite Cal, elite school Mich vs. more commoner OSU, redneck state FSU vs. urban decay private Miami. Iowa and Neb. are 2 state schools in the back half of tier one status. Both rural states, both in the middle of nowhere.
Google's homepage celebrates too much shit.
Is it too late?
Is it too late to rename our other rivalry trophy the Missouri-Nebraska Taco Bell?

Taco Bell
would have to buy it first.

This is too much
Someone some where is laughing themselves to sleep. Cant wait to see the trophy…my money is that it will be a medal that the selected heros will wear, like the one the Lion wears in the Wizard of Oz hahahaha.
