If you saw the end of yesterday's Texas/Arizona NCAA basketball game, you saw Texas get called for a five second violation in the closing minute of the game. Arizona took possession, and took the lead...and won the game.

The CBS/TNT crew in New York timed it themselves and found that Texas did have the five seconds, even if the referee bungled the call.

Haven't we heard this story before? You bet.

Instant karma gonna get you...

For the record, I think it was a bad call.

I also think Texas screwed themselves over (dumbest timeout call since the Fab Five?) at least as much as the refs screwed them over.

What I find most amazing (and amusing) is how livid Texas fans are over this. The talk radio guys here in Austin spent today marveling at how angry fans are about this call and wondering why this suddenly matters so much to them.

Ooh, I know! I know! Pick me! Pick me! Because it’s never happened to them before. Being on the receiving end of a huge, questionable call at the end of a big game is a new experience for them, and turns out it kind of sucks. Who knew?

I would rather they get screwed over in football, becaus that matters more to them (and us).

But this is still pleasing.

Timeouts

Often times, a referee will not accept a timeout call after 4 seconds into the count. Just like they no longer accept calling a timeout in mid-air while saving a ball.

Arizona

A guy at work is an Arizona grad, I thanked him for beating Texas and then officially apologized for that bowl game that got out of hand a few years back.

So I tried the Barbasol and Rotel dip and I was very dissapointed!

Actually, the end of the game reminded me of the A&M fb game this year

Where Neb was screwed with that late hit call that is actually more egregious than the UT vs. Zona turnover. But everybody said, including the ESPN blog guy, that Neb lost because of bad offense and that “bad calls happen all the time…good teams persevere…you are acting like crying children”.

Well, UT fans (and KSU fans who are actually blaming institutionalized racism on behalf of the officials on their loss to Wisky), you lost because your offense is missing for long stretches of the game, and guess what, bad calls happen all the time…good teams persevere through it… you sound like a bunch of elitist crybabies because you didn’t get what you thought was your birthright.

Deadspin: by douche bags, for douche bags.

I thought of the A&M game as a parallel, too.

In both games, teams could legitimately claim to have been screwed by the refs, but both teams also were at least as responsible for their own losses. (Remember, even after the five-second call, UT was still up by 2 with under 20 seconds to play.)

When Nebraska fans complained after the A&M game, as you said, the rest of the college football world – and especially the folks from the state of Texas – called us a bunch of whining babies who needed to get over it. (The Pelinis’ behavior during the game was a big part of that and certainly didn’t help matters.)

Well, now when the shoe’s on the other foot, Texas fans are responding the exact. same. way. Since they spent so much time mocking and calling us out for it, they deserve to be mocked and called out for their own hypocrisy even more so in this case.

Don't get me wrong.

I do think that our offense performance was a more legit reason for Neb. loss and I personally did bitch too much. But after that game, everyone was on our case. Now that UT is dealing with the same instance, its “UT got so screwed”.

Complaints

What I found interesting last night was there were 474 comments on BON shortly after 10:00 pm none of which were from Nebraska that I could see complaining about the bad call. After clicking in the “you bet” link above I found an article by Jon with 27 comments. Many of those were from Texas fans sticking up for their “magic 1 second” and they call us cry babies!
