Monday Question: What Are Your Hopes for 2011 Spring Football Practice?
Spring practice has started! With it, hope springs anew... or something like that. Seriously, though, spring is a time for heavy kool-aid consumption - everyone is undefeated and the players are all All-Conference candidates.
The Huskers have many, many questions heading into 2011 spring - such as - who will replace Ricky Henry and Keith Williams on the offensive line, what will Tim Beck's offense look like, what's up with this new guy Jamal Turner, and why does Sean Callahan always seem to be in view whenever someone is interviewing Bo Pelini at practice?
Sticking with that theme - today's question is pretty straightforward:
What is your biggest concern/question that you hope is resolved during spring football?
This week's Fun Friday theme poll is as follows (suggestions taken from last week's Monday Question post, so if you've got ideas, please post them):
- Japanese Sci Fi Movies (because I'm stubborn)
- Mount Rushmore
- Mad Max - The Movie Not Your Neighbor
- Beer Mascots
- Our New Overlords

Martinez
Wow, Martinez looks so unhappy in that picture. Like someone just took his puppy away.
My hope, also, is that no one gets hurt. Secondly, though, I would appreciate it if one of the QBs stepped up, took the reigns, leading to a more mild QB competition in the fall. Would create for less of a distraction. I am looking at you Martinez. Stop pouting and get to work. We need to be the inaugural Big 10 champs!!
That Was My First Thought
Martinez, just like last year, looks so unhappy. Such talent with so much opportunity ahead of him, and that attitude just rolls off him like stink off a pile of crap. If he still plays the diva and refuses to talk to the media, then I say he is not the leader material this team needs.
I couldn’t agree more with both your (and Aarons) wishes – 1) let’s have no injuries this off season, and 2) lets get over this QB competition garbage, put our money down on one and a backup and work at coaching up winners.

My wish for spring ball?
That fans would wipe the slate clean, and start over with no preconceived notions of individual players. It’s a new year, with a lot of new coaches. Lets give them a chance to correct, change, harangue, harass, cajole, or simply pound any bad attitudes, techniques, temperments or habits out of these kids.
As far as Martinez’s expression in the above photo…in the film clips shown on local sportscasts, I saw Taylor smiling with fellow players, and joking with coach Beck.
Spring is almost here, and change is in the air. Let’s let the spring practices play out, and see what individual growth comes about . Second chances are a good thing.
They're 18 to 22...how perfect were you at that age?

Rec'd.
I’d rec it twice if I could. Just because a dude doesn’t smile all the time or do what you want him to do on the field doesn’t make him a prima donna or “not a leader.” Let’s turn the page on the end of last season and the Watson era.
I'm your huckleberry.
Look, we all want the kid to succeed...
What a weapon he can be – no question he has the capability physically. But I am not jumping on the bandwagon until some evidence of mental maturity emerges. When and if it does, look out! Otherwise, my money is elsewhere.

Hmmmmmmm
was first impression was that Martinez look intense, ready to work. Honestly, that’s why I picked the photo.

My first impression...
…was that picture was a Photoshop. Of course, since it comes from the AP, I doubt it…but Photoshop was my first thought…

Intense
was also the first thing that came to my mind when seeing that pic. Man is on a mission! Good choice.
Sarcasm lost...
Sorry, should have included more phrases to get the point across I was being sarcastic above. Attempt at humor fail. Maybe he is just being intense, maybe he IS unhappy. Who knows. I was serious though, I do believe that at least solidifying the QB position prior to fall (especially with a new system) is key to developing cohesion in the group.
Beer Mascots
winning? Wow.
Vote goes until Thursday!!!
