Thursday Night Open Thread!
Tonight we have North Carolina at Virginia Tech at 7:00 PM on ESPN and Southern Miss at UAB at 7:00 PM on CBS Sports Network.
The Hokies are a 10.5 favorite over North Carolina, which after the firing of Butch Davis in late July has managed a 6-4 record so far this year. How they've done that I have no idea. If you have one reason to watch this game, it's to see massive Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas run over Tar Heel defenders. And if that ain't good enough, it's to see running back David Wilson do the same.
It's not that I hate North Carolina, but screw 'em, they have basketball.
As for Southern Miss and UAB, well, your guess is as good as mine.
Oh, and if you have NFL Network, you can watch Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos take on the New York Jets and that fat bastard that is their coach.

The haters can bash him all they want...
But Tim Tebow somehow finds a way to get it done. TIed up at 10 in the 3rd.

We are 99.7% sure Urban Meyer has agreed to a deal to become the next coach of Ohio State. Solid sources. Plural.

Not surprising. Makes the conference stronger.
Feel bad for Fickel though.

The NFL Network flash on the bottom makes Ryan look like a robot hitting some sort of forcefield and reversing direction.

BCS proposes a system that would cut out the crappy teams and restore the concept of "competitive" bowl games.
They’ve realized no one wants to watch the Big East play anyone else.
Also, I like the idea of turning the bowl system into a free-for-all again.

Do it
I’ve always disliked the conference tie ins (Rose Bowl aside). The Big East is a joke, and frankly, there are years when the SEC has 3 BCS worthy teams. There are years (last year) that the Big Ten has 3 BCS worthy teams. It’d give the bowls more freedom to set up GOOD games, rather than try to cobble together a decent game from the 1 or 2 options they get from 2 predetermined conferences.
I mean, think of the dream: this year instead of the Orange Bowl’s dreaded “Virginia Tech – Cincinnati” projection, we could have VT-Stanford, for example.

I agree. The Bowl Games should be competitive, not just "well, this is who we got".

Er....
Southern Miss really pooped the bed tonight against UAB. 2-8 UAB? REALLY?
