"We have visited with Penn State security and we understand they are enhancing their security efforts for Saturday’s game and are taking extra precautions to ensure that all players, coaches and fans are treated in a respectful way. We also appreciate that there is a student-led effort at Penn State to respectfully welcome Nebraska fans to Beaver Stadium and into the Big Ten Conference. We know that our fans will reciprocate and display good sportsmanship toward Penn State’s fans and players."

With that, it's game on for the Huskers on Saturday.

Woo!

Hopefully it’ll be a good game so we only have to hear the announcers pontificate on Paterno for 90 minutes instead of the full 3 hours.

I don't know where else to put this

But, does anyone know if Nebraska plans on recruiting the running back from Fremont-Mills? (Tabor, IA). Name is Nate Meier

The kid is an absolute beast @ 240lbs and a great mix of speed, agility, and power. In a district match, a couple weeks ago, he scored 10TD’s with 500 yards rushing.

I just finished watching their state semi-final game over the internet against the number 1 team in the state of Iowa(who had a 35game win streak), and it looked like he was playing against grade school kids.

Here’s a link if anyone’s curious, but this is the type of back Nebraska needs.

There is a link where you can watch the highlights from the game, but it’s $4.00 or so.

I should also add

The kid’s at over 2,200 yards in 9 games this season, where he’s rarely played past halftime. In all of his recruiting reports, why Shawn Callahan’s never said anything about this kid, I don’t know. But he runs like Burkhead, but a much larger human being.

Yay! Football!

Do we stand a snowball’s chance?

And better question – will we take advantage of that chance and come away with a win?

DISCUSS.

I'm amused by the commentary on their boards

Basically they think its a shoo in for them if their team just shows up. I just want to flip on the caps lock and go over there and tell them "PEOPLE YOU BEAT INDIANA, PURDUE, AND ILLINOIS BY 6, 5 and 3 POINTS!!! IN WHAT UNIVERSE DOES THAT INDICATE NEBRASKA “SHOULD BE AN EASY WIN???”"

(Yes I read the exact phrase “should be an easy win” with regard to Nebraska this weekend multiple times).

Let's hope their players show up with that mentality as well.

Penn State fan here

Listen, it’s doubtful you’re going to get attacked. The only fanbases that don’t get a very warm welcome here are Michigan and Ohio State. If you’ve met their fans, you’ll understand why. Even when Bama’ was beating us, even when Iowa beat us when we were #5 in the nation, we didn’t do anything negative.

But seriously, doubtful you get attacked. There’ll be a few bad apples, as there always are (Yes, PSU does have fans in Philly), but, you’ll probably be treated like Iowa does. Which is very well.

Most of the negative anger that day will be attributed towards the Board of Trustees that day. And the Westboro Baptist Church.

Just, don’t make any Joe jokes, then all bets are off.

Agreement. Don't poke bears with sticks and they'll rarely attack.

Honestly, I hope we all have a good time

There’s a lot of frustration, but I know some people from Nebraska in State College. They wore Nebraska jerseys downtown last night. Given, they did leave early, but nothing bad happened to them.

It really doesn’t seem like there’s much anger towards Nebraska, and likewise, there should be no anger

Since you were kind enough to come over

and you’ve probably spoken more than you ever wanted to about… all of that… what are your thoughts on the actual football game this weekend?

by SccrHskr on Nov 10, 2011 5:11 PM CST up reply actions

All team reports seem like they're angry

I hope we’ll win, it’ll probably be some low scoring game. The bye week last year made our offense exponentially better the week after. I’d expect a lot of Silas Redd.

It is worth noting Derek Moye is back. Doubt we beat Illinois w/o Derek

Yeah

I’m pretty certain of a low scoring affair. If your coaches were paying attention, they’ll run right at us, a lot. You don’t have a mobile QB, which we are much better against but it’ll be a battle. Hopefully Taylor’s renaissance through the air continues.

As for intangible, I can’t even guess. I think our team will also be angry, the loss to Northwestern definitely jolted them. Pelini’s teams are very good on the road and in adversity. It’ll be a good one, I think.

Hopefully

we show up to play this week unlike last. No matter the situation it is played between the lines and what it takes to win doesn’t. Execution, discipline, and playmaking all things we did’t do last week against Northwestern.

Saturday's Game

Wonder what Tom thinks of the Big 10’s “stability” now?

by ragingcyclone on Nov 10, 2011 6:32 PM CST reply actions

Just fine, I'm sure...

In case you’ve forgotten, the Big XII is still a trainwreck. Every original member of the Big XII is either (a) gone, (b) going, © smarting over being rejected in their bid to leave, or (d) wishing that someone else was interested in them.

by Husker Mike on Nov 10, 2011 8:08 PM CST up reply actions

yea

i will take the big 10 over the soon to be old southwest conference plus okie state and OU anyday.

by Huzkerfan on Nov 10, 2011 9:05 PM CST up reply actions

Oh yea

and the old big eight schools who no one else wants.

by Huzkerfan on Nov 10, 2011 9:05 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah right

In case you’ve forgotten, the Big 10’s biggest programs had their coaches fired, one coach had a pretty good relationship with a tattoo parlor and the other protected a perp. One is minus an athletic director and president. And Tom has to pray that somehow his coaches, players and fans make it through their next game without being attacked. I’d rather be in the Big XII than where he’s at now.

by ragingcyclone on Nov 10, 2011 9:05 PM CST up reply actions

Glad you

are happy where you are at but so are we. No matter how you slice it the Big Ten is more stable than the Big Twelve. Ten years from now which is more likely to still be around?

by Huzkerfan on Nov 10, 2011 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

Actually, I'm pretty sure everyone involved is happy.

Sorry, I know that doesn’t make lonely little Iowa State happy, but it is what it is.

by OmahaGary68164 on Nov 10, 2011 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

Actually, I’m happy without Nebraska. After lying about wanting revenue sharing (Tom voted against it at the Big XII, while embracing it in the BIG lie) and stability (who bolted first?), I’d cast my lot any day with Mack Brown and Bobby Stoops, than I would with Paterno and Tressel. The Big 12 has a better shot at surviving 12 years than the BIG lie does at keeping its programs intact. Texas made Iowa State much more money than Nebraska ever did in the Big 8. In fact, we named our $5 million TV screen after Mack’s first born.’

At least we won’t play in high school stadiums anymore …

Aw we miss you so much too!

Good luck in the Big East when the Big XII collapses again.

by davereid on Nov 10, 2011 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

I just think it’s funny that you think the B1G lie is more stable and yet still have to take “extra security precautions”. I think you need to worry more about what goes on in the B1G Lie’s stadiums and locker rooms than in any of our “high school” stadiums. And Nebraska can’t even win in the second weakest BCS conference. Unbelievable. God bless Texas!

Death penalty

And I can’t wait Tom’s reaction when the NCAA gives Penn State the death penalty for protecting a child rapist. Much worse than what SMU did.

More instability in the Big 10

Did Tom ever appear in a Big 12 game when an opposing assistant coach couldn’t attend because of “multiple threats” against him? Wow. The Big 10 is crumbling fast.
