PrintIt's Thursday, so it must be open thread time! I trust y'all are having a good week!
Tonight it's Rice at Houston on FSN, with Houston being one of the few undefeated teams.
And on ESPN, we have Virginia at Miami. Last year Virginia pulled the upset, which all but sealed the fate of Randy Shannon who was fired after the final 'Canes game of last season.
Other than that, I have a favor to ask. Is there something you're not getting enough of at Corn Nation? Is there something you'd like to see us do that we're not doing? If so, leave us a comment, form a discussion, and let's see what happens!

What do you make of the Big XII fiasco
right now with WVA and Louisville, Senators and Mizzou?
They should just bring in both of the Big East teams and get ESPN to throw buckets of money at the BRAND NEW Big 12.

Their current deal is for a ten team league.

I’m guessing that someone actually might have done a cost-benefits-analysis and looked at West Virginia and thought – who the hell wants to go that far for every sport we play, when we could add another Texas school and cut our costs?

I was really surprised
when I saw West Virginia mentioned. One very minor factor that leads me to like that is WVU does have wrestling and with Nebraska gone and Mizzou possibly on the way out, the only leaves ISU, OSU, and OU with wrestling programs. Obviously, not a big factor with all of the realignment, but I am a fan.

To me the Big East and Big XII are done
They have lost their credibility as stable conferences. When the chips start to fall, everyone and their cats and dogs will be pressing to get into either the SEC, B1G, PAC, or ACC. These will be the 4 power conferences.
Unfortunately, the BCS has their crappy formula that will somehow reward the Big 12 for getting crappier.

BCS should change rules for AQ conferences
If the conference has a champ game, then they get a BCS AQ status. If no champ game, then no AQ bid. Big XII and Big East, welcome to non-AQ status until you get enough teams in your conference for a champ game.

i think
they did the right thing. I realize that non-BCS schools probably can’t afford to give $2000 to all their student athletes, but that shouldn’t keep the BCS schools from giving out more money to theirs.
Multi-year scholarships….. what will they do in a coaching transition? We’re already nuts when some coach shows up as if he’s supposed to transform a miracle right away. I imagine there’s an exception for that…. but I haven’t read everything yet.

I like the multi-year scholarship rule.
And I hope that they do something about oversigning, though it is almost a necessity in baseball.

I'm guessing the obligation is that as long as the student wishes to remain at the university, they have to honor the scholarship.
I think the multi-year scholarships are there to protect the players from coaches like Saban.
I don’t see the NCAA implementing a NFL waiver wire for the players who don’t make the cut.

Lousville sells beer at the Stadium
Not that this is a bad thing, except BigXII rules don’t allow alcohol sales at sporting events I believe. And the new Basketball arena has a few of the cities swankiest night clubs right on the mezz level. Booze rules and that “could” be a deal breaker for XII.

Bo in favor of the cost of attendance pay increase. I’m guessing UNL is one of the few schools that could actually afford this.
Randle may need surgery. This stinks.
Team is excited for Saturday. Bo thinks it’ll be a good test. I really hope they carry that momentum into the season.
Mentioned that he has found the season to be tough to prepare for but it has been good for the team. I kind of think this may actually improve the team’s ability to prepare in the future.

Whomever their current QB was is amazing running Nebraska's offensive playbook.
Grant it, I’m on Freshman difficulty because while some people like to blow people up with guns, I prefer to blow up defensive linemen with running plays by converted fullbacks.
