Saturday Night Post-Game Celebration Thread
Nebraska uses a dominant first half performance to defeat Minnesota 41-14. Second half was fairly pedestrian, but it's a win. Now on to Michigan State!
Sparty takes on Wisconsin tonight on ESPN, while our old friends Oklahoma and Texas Tech battle on ABC. And for the clueless, Southern Cal and Notre Dame play under the lights on NBC.
Oh, and the World Series resumes tonight as well. Cardinals vs. Rangers, anyone?
Here's your post-game celebration thread. Unless Jon got himself arrested storming the goal posts at TCF Bank Stadium, I'm sure he'll be stopping by to give us some first-hand accounts of the carnage.

1st half: Great.
2nd: Meh.
Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.
Fairly solid first half
But Second half was on the sloppy side. Should not have been caught off guard with that flick and throw play. Also the fumble-touchdown play was ugly, we should have held them to a field goal there.
Overall we played OK against a very out-matched opponent.
Horrible game to watch.
Minnesota is a calamity of a football team. That was nothing but a glorified practice.

I thought there was something
about the ball has to cross the line of scrimmage and if it didn’t that was grounding.
Line of scrimmage is not part of a grounding call
Just whether there was an eligible receiver in the area of the ball if it is thrown outside the QB box
Ball has to cross the line of scrimmage if no receiver around
by clay-born to party on Oct 22, 2011 8:08 PM CDT up reply actions
So if he is in the pocket
he can throw the ball anywhere he wants and it’s fine even if it’s out of bounds? He steps out of the pocket and he has to have a receiver?
it doesn't
But that was a penalty in the end zone so a safety

If the QB throws the ball 5 yards (either way) outside where the ball is snapped
and there is not eligible receivers within the area of where the ball was thrown then grounding is called.

For some reason, Jon,
it took me forever to find it, too. Would it have anything to do with the name? i.e., no “Husker” or “nebraska” in it?

Wow ballgame
Wisky’s mistakes kept MSU in it and their inept defensive play did the rest.

It's not mathematically over
But Wisconsin is playing like crap. I have no confidence at all in either side of their team right now.

It's disgusting
We get Wisky’s best game and give them our worst and then the reverse happens tonight in the one game we REALLY needed Wisconsin to win.

I consider Nebraska the favorite. I don’t see MSU being up for it. Either a MASSIVE win over Wisky tonight or an EPIC chokejob after pretty much everything went their way all game long. I think we’ll do ok.

Speaking of school records,
remember the post-game video of Bo and the team after the OSU game, where Bo yelled out that this was the biggest come-back in Husker history?
That historical fact was brought up to him by the gal that did the interview as he was coming off the field. Bo did a huge double-take, but managed to remember it for his great locker-room speech.
I’m not blaming Bo for not realizing it. Hell, I had no idea the importance of it. But good for the interviewing lady, and the stats people, for discovering it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure we can forget about going to the Big 10 championship
We have to win every game the rest of the season. I don’t think we have the defense to do that this year. Oh well, Bo “We want to win Championships” Pelini will have to wait another year to compete for a championship.
Look me up on youtube sometime...if you're really bored.
Off topic but
Was anyone else getting tired of hearing Brett Musberger and Kirk Herbstreit talk about how they want to make babies with Russel Wilson earlier? Even when he played like crap. Also, interesting how they always say his full name. Everyone else they just say their last name. But with RUSSEL WILSON it’s always RUSSEL WILSON. Now they are crying themselves to sleep because their favorite heisman candidate just lost.
RUSSEL WILSON this, RUSSEL WILSON that.
They’d say things like, “Did you see the way RUSSEL WILSON threw the football down the field and a receiver caught the ball he threw? With a QB that can throw the ball to receivers who can catch it, they’ve got a chance to be in every game. That’s what RUSSEL WILSON brings to Wisconsin.”

Even with Luck they say "and Luck completes a pass."
But with Wilson it’s “and RUSSEL WILSON completes a pass!”

This game reminds me a lot of the Missouri game last year
Good opponent coming off their biggest win of the year at home. That game was early afternoon if I recall. Maybe like 2:30 kickoff.
Look me up on youtube sometime...if you're really bored.
Actually
We were 6-1 heading into that game fresh off a road victory too.
Missouri was also 6-1 and ranked in the top 10.
Missouri was at the time the best defense in the conference with a mean nasty defensive line that was going to shut down our run game…
Hmmm…lots of parallels. Hopefully the outcome is as good!
Look me up on youtube sometime...if you're really bored.
I feel good about it
No doubt in my mind we can move the ball on them and score if our offense is on. My main concern is how our defense will handle a genuine multidimensional attack.

Yeah
I kind of wish Minny was better. Today wasn’t really a good gauge of how much progress we’ve made.
"My hardest job is to convince the people of Nebraska that 10-1 is not a losing season." - Tom Osborne
Very little pressure
hardly any TFL…still.
Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.
True
My counter point is that do you really want to pressure a qb that’s a horrible passer but very good at running? I’d say the plan would be contain him and let his arm sink them.
"My hardest job is to convince the people of Nebraska that 10-1 is not a losing season." - Tom Osborne
That's probably right
I felt like we had pretty good pressure today though anyways. I think we had a couple sacks and tfls. Granted, it was Minnesota, but it was a good tune-up game for them to get used to life without Crick.

I've been thinking the same thing about MSU-Nebraska...
…lots of parallels to last year’s Missouri game.
One difference: In last year’s game, there was two weeks of pent-up fan frustration (after the Texas loss) that just exploded on the heads of Mizzou. I thought it was as loud in Memorial Stadium for that game as I have ever heard it get.
We need some of that for the Spartans. Memo to readers: If you’re going to the game or know someone who is, let them know the team could use their help. We need pure chaos next Saturday.
Big stop for Tech there

Don't know how
this game will turn out, of course, but what a lesson in how seemingly unfair college games can be.. You think you have more talent, better coaches?…hold on a second, partner…there’s this thing called parity that we installed back in the nineties.

Let's say Tech holds on and wins
Then Okie State becomes the only legit national title contender in the Big 12. They could get as high as #2 after Alabama/LSU play. Then what if Oklahoma beats them at the end of the year? Do they still have a chance to play for the national championship?

probably not

How about this scenario
Let’s assume that Stanford loses. Then the loser of the Bama/LSU game falls behind Okie State and Boise in the polls. But Okie State loses to Oklahoma late in the year. I think the BCS gives the nod to a 1-loss SEC team over Boise. So then we could end up with a Bama/LSU rematch in the national championship. What do you think of that? Possible?

I shouldn't be smiling,
but if OU can’t make it to the Big Game, then it pleases me that no other Big 12 team can.

OU and Wisky lost in very similar ways
Comedy of errors against inferior teams.

Some people being surprised that Bo burned a scholarship on a kicker. I’ve never understood the philosophy that a good kicker isn’t worth a scholarship.

lol I know

Idiot play by OU
Even if they get the onside kick, they’ll have to drive the field now.

wow, OU has had way too many chances to come back

This is why its great to be able to pound the ball and get first downs late that way.

This is what I'm taking away from this game:
The best among the best can stumble at any time.
And if I see great effort from our guys against MSU (even if the coaches call a brain-fart of a game)…if the boys compete, I will not cry with disdain. They will get my support.
And, here we go…OSU down three.

So...
LSU/Bama vs Stanford now?
"My hardest job is to convince the people of Nebraska that 10-1 is not a losing season." - Tom Osborne
Then it will be LSU vs. Bama in the national championship
Seriously, it could happen.
Look me up on youtube sometime...if you're really bored.
Me to but it's closer to happening than people might think...
All it would take is losses by Stanford to Oregon and Okie State to Oklahoma. LSU/Bama loser hangs around in the top 5 and then jumps those teams when they lose. Then strength of schedule and computer rankings put the 1-loss SEC team above Boise State.

That'd just a parody of the last ~6 years
