Nebraska at Wisconsin - Huskers Second Half Open Thread
Wisconsin takes advantage of two Taylor Martinez interceptions late in the second half, and trail 27-14. Will we see some more of Rex Burkhead? Only six carries in the first half.

Is it possible that Bo
is so enamored with Martinez’s athleticism that he fails to see that he is not a quarterback?
I've often wondered that...
Not that we have a lot of options right now

Camp Randall
is a dry stadium, correct?
The only thing that is giving me pleasure is the thought of Jon suffering through this as he dries out.
They're 18 to 22...how perfect were you at that age?
The Power of Red begins with the Passion of Walk-Ons.
I still think we can make a game of this
If we can get out of our own way. 3 out of 4 of Wisconsin’s TD’s is directly attributable to at least one bad Nebraska mistake.
"My hardest job is to convince the people of Nebraska that 10-1 is not a losing season." - Tom Osborne
Ok
Why does Pelini keep trying to force throws? It’s obvious and everyone is gonna have to accept it,Martinez is one dimensional. Lets get some wildcat/option/fb trap goin and stop trying to throw the damn ball! Oh,and good evening everyone!
Howdy
Regarding Martinez, he’s not a pure passer, but he can be effective when the defense is in run mode. We can only do that by re-establishing the run. Six carries for Burkhead in one half is a travesty.

second half supplies
large beef pizza
6 bottles of beer
and 5 jager bombs ready for the touchdowns.
I’m ready
on second thought
i dont think i have enough beer…
Ok we get the ball
Either run it back for the TD
or
run the offense like we did in the first quarter. Stay out of must pass downs.

I'm starting to worry
If that last years talking too Pelini got from Perlman and coach Tom didn’t somehow damage his psych somehow…he just doesn’t seem to have that fire this year. And it’s showing on Defense
LOTS of youth on defense
Which is great for the future, but right now it’s incredibly hard to mask an inexperienced secondary.

Actually, was thinking more along the lines of the Offense
Lets get another QB in there if they wanna work on passing. Martinez just isn’t designed for it
Yes he does but....
We put ourselves in that position with those GD pre-snap procedure penalties.
"My hardest job is to convince the people of Nebraska that 10-1 is not a losing season." - Tom Osborne
What part of this game gives you the impression you guys are good enough to beat them?
You played tough for most of the first half but you’re down 20. If Wilson was your QB you guys could beat them.
3 Nebraska turnovers
=21 Wisconsin points. The margin is 20. We’ve moved the ball and most of their offense has been busted coverages. Wisconsin is very good and has taken advantage of our mistakes, but mistakes are indisputably what let this game get out of hand. And mistakes can be fixed.

Nebraska didn’t get called for them while trying to catch up to wilson first half…cause he’s just awesome to watch and stuff
TM tries to do too much...forces himself to throw into coverage
It is more of a decision making process for him…to know that there will another chance and to let his team punt.

True
Way I see it, Nebraska has always been run first. We run first, they stack the line, and then we pass out of the play action effectively. Problem is that now that we’re behind, Wisky is expecting throw first and is dropping 6, 7 people into coverage on every play.
Boom, 3 interceptions.

TM is more a runner than a thrower
He was so effective when he just would just take his 3 steps back and then just run for it. He has to decide before the snap if he is going to just run or throw and to mix it up to keep the D off balance.

Nebraska isn't unique.
This is the Wisconsin band. This is what they do. To come in and hem and haw over etiquette with a “why, I never!” attitude is futile. You want to be in the conference? Get used to some of the realities. Camp Randall is a drunken orgy of bile and rudeness. So is Kinnick. So is Ohio. And Michigan is, um, hey, there are some really nice cars in that lot!

coaching issues
I love Pelini as our coach, but he has some issues with getting the guys to listen. The guys have to keep contain, stay in position, etc. If the can’t do that, they need to ride the pine. And Martinez needs to listen to some QB coaching. Square the shoulders, don’t throw off the back foot, etc. Very disappointing night. Too many mistakes.

Actually this one
is a programing issue that just popped up. No clue why and no idea how to fix it. Give me paper and pencil.
well...then you really need to get that issue resolved!
Cerner problem?
I have a McKesson facility right around the corner
Want me to go rough them up?!
you must
be in Texas. I’ve gotten one call back, and have alerted my staff. No reason for geek violence tonight.
Good, that means it's not me
I’m financial, not medical.
I’ll screw you out of your money, but hey, smile bucko, you still get to live! ;-)
Mine
drank whiskey tonight and is sleeping in his recliner with 50’s music on. Thus my request for a Husker hug, cause I’m not getting one from the big guy tonight.

40-Year-Old Virgin, during the Man-o-lantern treatment, he screams out KELLY CLARKSON at one point when the wax is removed.
Yes he does. Which is a nice anology to what happened in Madison tonite.
They took our chest hair!
Not all of it
They left a little of it left for the rest of the B1G to rip out.
Something to look forward to!
Is it true that if you don’t use it…you lose it?
No, I haven't used...uh
Nevermind. This is a family-friendly site, and frankly, I don’t like thinking about it.
I think they got some sack hair too
I witnessed that sh*t show firsthand. Glad I only have a 2.5 hour drive tomorrow. Hope breaks it off this week. They made us look silly.

It’s a running joke with me and the guys I go to Husker games with, stemming from something the folks who sat behind us the last couple of years said during the Dorothy Lynch Drive Summary.
Now, everytime I hear Dorothy Lynch, “Drive Summary” or “Good on Ice Cream” must follow.

No
there was no game however, Nebraska ended the night with an extra loss. Wisconsin with one more win.

It's a "feature" of the B1G
If it’s going to be bad, they just skip the formalities and adjust the records accordingly.
ABC replaced actual game footage for 3 hours with “The Russell Wilson Story”.
I bailed. I don't want to hear the sky is all rosey and we will meet them again in December
We aint doing shit with that kind of play.
And I didn't want to hear
“we’ll get it fixed” one more friggin time.

Oh hey Nebraska...
Welcome to the Big Ten. This is how is usually goes. Also, just when you think you SHOULD beat Ohio State, they will probably beat you. It’s better to just find a sport you’re good at that no one else cares about and move on. Glad to have you, though!
BUT
we do football and……… some volleyball.

I didn’t think we’d blow the B1G away in football, but I thought we’d be competitive. And, tonight, we clearly weren’t.
I Earstadbelieve.

That's on Pelini.
I don’t know which Wisconsin team they game-planned for but it wasn’t this one.

We're aware of our schedule.
Will be tough sleddin up there if we play like we did tonight.
Well, that was a good way to start things! Can only go up from here!
Here’s hoping Beck remembers he has running backs next week. Anyway, just an absolutely abysmal performance. Just an across the board failure.
On the plus side, Pelini isn’t nearly as devious as we thought. The secondary is just unprepared and undisciplined.
And while I can understand their frustration, I’m embarrassed by the fans who left early.
Good luck to the Badgers. I’m done with this game.

Um...
I’m a little lost. How is the secondary being unprepared and undisciplined “on the plus side”?
It means we can stop assuming that when we're bad, we might just be playing oppossum.
And now that Pelini knows his secondary is really, really not in the game, maybe he’ll help Raymond with his coaching.
The Wisconsin secondary was being physical all night. Our guys were either tripping their receivers for flags or playing three guys over.
And Dennard is not himself at all. He was getting burned by Toon (when they felt it fit to have him cover the guy).
The plus-side is that all of us sunshine pumpers can temper our expectations.

I can't do it any more. Not as long as Taylor Martinez is still being asked to read defenses.
And we continue to refuse Burkhead the ball.

Nebraska tried to be cute I guess.
But Burkhead was picking up 4-8 yards a carry and to switch to “let taylor pick” was just mind boggling.
I think he forgot which team was wearing red on at least two of those interceptions.

That was my
question of the night. Why weren’t we getting Rex into it more?
He has proven to be the game-changer so far this year, if only to distract the D to the point that everything else opens up because of the threat he poses.
And his heart and drive is infectious to the rest of the team.
I know I’m going to have to watch tonights tape with a clear head, but, man, why did Beck go so far away from our best and most tried and true offensive weapon?

Because he's a rookie OC

The style Nebraska brought in the good old days. Man, being on the receiving end of those power runs all day is tough to watch.

Thats gotta be good, as long as we play like the first 1.5 qtrs from tonight.
I am.
If we don’t clobber the Buckeyes then I’m gonna destory a television
Hopefully not one of yours
Go into the locker room and take out some of those Ipads. That is, if Ndamukong doesn’t rip them out himself. I’m sure he’s embarrassed by that defense as well.

One thing I hope
that comes up in tomorrows discussion is everyones view of how Beck called the game. Early on there was great agreement. Then…
I am at such a disadvantage in disecting this sport I love. Having never played a down, and, worse yet, never having been coached in it’s intricacies, I can be at such a loss at times. I watch it with a half-informed, highly emotional eye.
I depend on you men to continue to educate me.
Can’t wait to read tomorrow’s analysis.

I never played football either
but I know that turnovers and the ground game are of utmost importance.
I feel the same way.
I’m going to guess that many do. One of the things Jon and others have mentioned is how serious football-related posts get relatively few comments compared to the other stuff (fluff or smack-talk related). Well, I can’t really discuss the intricacies (sp) of defensive or offensive schemes. I just like to watch the Huskers play.
Employing Crowd-sourcing (also known as the internet), I believe the general opinion is that Beck should have run the ball.
When I say run the ball, I mean give the ball to someone other than Martinez without actually making it go in the air where the Wisconsin secondary gets to look like the greatest defense in the Big Ten.

As an Ohio State grad/fan: They are going to annihilate us, too. Wisconsin is REALLY good this year. Like, MNC good. Good luck next week. I genuinely hope this was the start of a losing streak for you!
