Nebraska Pay Per View: Idaho And South Dakota State - Worth It?

Pay per view info has been released regarding the Idaho game, although I see anything different than what was available for the Western Kentucky game.

The cost is the same - $39.95, up from the $29.95 of last season. The justification is that the games are in HD this season, which is funny (sad, not ha ha) because satellite providers like Dish Network have started running deals on HD - "Free HD for Life".

Note that Huskers.com reports that PPV plans for South Dakota State have not been announced in the off-chance that the game is picked up by one of the regular television partners. If I had to bet, I'd guess the chances of that happening are slim and none.

It was easy to see why Husker fans would plunk down the $39.95 for Western Kentucky. It was the first chance to see an improved offense and a defense without Ndamukong Suh, both attempts at answering the question - how good will the 2010 version be?

Idaho comes to town and  the game is on PPV again. Here's your key point about Idaho

Idaho's last win against a BCS-conference team came in 2000 against WSU. Since then, it has lost 20 straight to big-conference schools by an average of 29.6 points per game.

I'll be getting the game again (as I will for South Dakota State), and we'll be hosting a game thread so if you're not getting the game at least you can follow along, and if you like, ask other Husker fans questions throughout the game.

Question is - how many of you will be plunking down another $39.95 for Idaho, and then another $39.95 for South Dakota State after that?

Oh we will...

We always do. Just supply meeting demand. And to be honest, its the cost for all the Big XII PPV games. The OU vs. Utah State game (wife is a sooner, so we watched that game) was the same price.

To be honest, fan behavior like this probably had a factor is the Big Ten admission. I guarantee that high price premium that the Big Ten will be able to demand for the Big Ten network in places like Omaha and Lincoln was a big selling point. I am guessing that the BTN will demand around $4 per subscriber vs. the $1 in other Big Ten areas. Viewed in that way, Nebraska more than makes up for any population concerns.

Fan behavior like this is why UNL has options that other schools (see the other Big XII north schools) can only dream of.

Ditto

Gotta see the boys in Red. It’s cheaper than buying tickets.

FYI about HD

If you plan on ordering the game from a cable or satellite provider that offers BOTH regular and HD viewing options, be sure to specifically request the HD option (both cost exactly the same). When I called a well-known satellite provider to order the WKU game, assuming the customer service representative would choose the HD option, I did not make this request and was given the regular (non-HD) broadcast. I ended up having to call back and go through hoops in order to have them switch it to the HD version, so please keep this in mind and GO BIG RED!

PPV Cost

You can always go to a bar and spend $100+ versus $40 in the comfort of your own home with friends. While the price is outrageous they know they have us by the b%^*&s and we have to pay whatever it is.

Skipping

I am probably going to skip this one. I paid for the WKU, I had to see who started at QB, but I can’t justify nearly doubling my sat bill on 2 programs in one month. I have a bar that gets them near my home, but it is usually too packed to find a good seat. I watch the games by myself (nobody likes me?..or rather none of my Colorado friends like Nebraska…), and I can’t sit there for 2-3 hours before the game while I wait for it to start. So, Radio, Internet, and highlights it will be for me this week.

Skipping too

PPV went up 33%, My Pension did not go up and Social Security did not go up. I’m voting no with my wallet.

Wow, who's satellite bill is only $40?

I can never seem to keep mine under $200/mo. 2 HD dvr’s, movie channels, sports packages… When you’re spending that much what’s another $40. Plus I think I’d go batty knowing there was a husker game on and I wasn’t watching it. Last year my dad and I ran like idiots through the streets of breckenridge looking for the game when the place we normally watch games while we’re up there (Eric’s downstairs) informed us 5 minutes prior to kickoff they would not be getting that game. I think the stress took about 3 years off my life. Look at it like that and $40 is nothing. Plus now in HD!!! I tried to order it after the game on Saturday and they won’t let me until tomorrow. Can anyone tell I’m a bit excited?

My mother in law's...

$39.99 a month … though that’s the introductory offer for Dish Network… :-)

I'll just go

to the bar and watch it again. I live in Des Moines, and there’s a great Husker bar in W. Des Moines called the Chicken Coop and it’s always full of Husker fans hootin and hollerin. Fun times.

Hadoken!!

I might be at the Chicken Coop as well

There needs to be more Des Moines Husker hangouts. Maybe we should start our own?

ppv

if you live in or around york county, Max’s Bar in thayer always carries the ppv games (hd on the main big screen). plus it’s the only place around here that’s (legally) open ’til 2am.

Tough choice for me.

$40 is a lot to shell out for one game, which is why I didn’t watch last week’s contest. If it were just me and Mrs. Rev we’d be joining Brizzle T in Des Moines this weekend (B, we’ll have to hook up sometime if I do make it down there, would be nice to meet IRL), but my girls (3 and 2) don’t do well in bars for four hours +. If I had to make a prediction I’d say I’ll get the radio broadcast over teh intertubes while trying to watch some other games on mute.

probably thinkin' about gettin' this one too

just ‘cause Idaho seems like better competition and I’m hoping to see that 2nd game improvement. I’ll probably skip the PPV on SoDak…though it’s hard to think I’ll miss one I don’t absolutely have to.

Tickets to game, long drive, and hotel out

Tickets $!00 x three, 15 hour car drive plus gas, hotel for 2 nights, stop at Runza, I’ll go to the Fox and Hound bar here in Albuquerque where we have our Husker watch parties and catch the game. Last week there were approx 250 people there to watch the BIG RED.

My new plan

PPV – 39.95 is out. (My wife checks the cable bill, but never my bar tab..she’s a keeper)

Fox and the Hound (in Broomfield (Westminster), CO) free + beer, but most likely packed.

Recording game tomorrow on FOXMW so I’ll still have the rewatch (Part of my BTN sports package :) ) … free.

Discovering that same channel carries “The Bo Pelini Show” in 3 days ….well…priceless!

gotta go set the DVR…

HELLO!!!

If you’ve come to this page on Saturday because you’re looking for an online streaming source for the PPV game, you probably won’t find it.

I’ve never found an online source for the Husker PPV games. Good news is that this will be the last one!
