Why Does Cody Green Continue to Play?
Many Husker fans have wondered including myself why Bo Pelini continues to send Cody Green out onto the field when he rarely plays well. If you take a step back however you will see there is good reason for this.
Early in the season many Husker fans thought that a 2 quarterback system was being used, that Taylor Martinez was QB1 and Cody Green QB1a. That is not true. Since game one Taylor has been the starter.
Then why has Cody Green been playing so much you might ask? The answer is actually simple... they need to develop a solid back up that is capable of stepping in if T-mart gets hurt.
T-mart is a running quarterback I don' think there is any debate about that. Running around so much leaves his body exposed for injury. Zach Lee won't be here next year (is anyone even sure he is here now?) and Brion Carnes looks like he will not be passing C. Green on the depth chart anytime soon so Cody Green is the back up for the next 2 1/2 years.
Cody came here riding a tidal wave of hype and has yet to live up to it. When he realized he was not going to win the #1 Qb job there were whispers he might be thinking about transferring, Perhaps Bo's sometimes puzzling move to put him in the game is a move to keep him happy and at Nebraska.
If Cody is patient and continues to work hard his time will come. I think Bo is very aware that one day he will need Cody to go make an important spot start and that is why he is showing him some love on Saturdays

That may be true...
but I don’t have to like it.
I have seen no improvement in Cody Green’s passing ability since the first game he played last year. He still has a rocket arm but absolutely no touch or control. Since the first game, he has looked terrible any time he checks in the game. Is he really imroving? Is there something I’m missing?
If Cody is our 2nd best option at Q, Jamal Turner can’t get here soon enough.
what's
the old cheesy Yogi Berra saying – “baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical”?
It applies to football, too. He just has to settle and realize he can’t do everything.
It would also probably help if he weren’t brought into games in the shittiest possible position. At Washington, he’s stuck inside his own ten, and wasn’t that the case against SDSU????

All I have to say is...
Nebraska could be in big, big trouble if Martinez and Green don’t step it up as [quarterbacks].
I can easily see Martinez falling apart against conference opponents and getting benched for Green. Even worse, I can see Green the Turnover Machine doing even further damage.
That leaves us back where we started last year. Zach Lee…and no experience heading into the BigTen next year.
As pessimistic as that sounds, it is very possible.
Talk about manic depressive
We’ve got a thread on here promoting Taylor Martinez for the Heisman, and another looking at him as a bust.
Truth is somewhere in the middle.
I hope you’re right. He’s just that type of QB who can make you cringe anytime he sets to throw a pass…when he sets his feet, I should say.
I still stand by my prediction – we will see Lee by November.

....with a clip board in his hands on the side line.
Lee will be on the side lines with a clip board in his hands as T-Magic leads the Huskers to a North Division Championship and on to the Big 12 Championship game. The only exception to that is if Martinez and Green are both hurt and cannot play.
